Winners side, losers side. Dominating from the first game, coming
back from 8-2 down. It doesn't matter. Johnny Archer can win
from anywhere.
Archer's latest tournament victory was at the Turning Stone
Classic XI held at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY.
At the last Turning Stone Classic, Archer cruised through the
winners bracket unbeaten. This time was a little different.
Archer dropped a 9-6 match to Dennis Hatch in the third round
and started his trek through the one loss side. Wins over David
Vaughn, Dave Fernandez, Shawn Putnam, Ronnie Wiseman, Jonathan
Pinegar, Jeremy Jones and Francisco Bustamante earned Archer
a match with Raj Hundal in the semi-finals.
That match with Hundal looked to be the end of the line for
Archer as Hundal had definitely brought his "A" game
to the table. Hundal cruised to a quick 8-2 lead, but could
not get over the hill and Archer won seven straight games to
pull out the unlikely 9-8 win. "I can't believe it. I outplayed
him all match and still lost" said Hundal. "If I wasn't
so damned good looking, I would just go jump off a bridge"
joked Hundal after the match.
Archer's opponent in the finals was the unlikely Charlie Williams.
Williams has been more known for his promoting skills than his
9-ball skills in the past couple of years, but he reminded all
of the fans on this weekend that he can still compete with the
best of them. Williams had convincing wins over Shane Van Boening,
Jeremy Jones and Hundal on his way to the finals.
Even with Williams showing his "A" game, he was no
match for Archer in the finals. Archer took advantage any one
chances he got and ran off to a 13-6 win for the title.
Archer earned $8000 for first place, while Williams took home
$5000 for second. Hundal settled for $3600 and the assurance
that he was the best looking player in the field.

Joss Tour Adds
3 New Sponsors |
Mike Zuglan’s Joss Northeast 9-Ball
Tour is proud to announce the addition of three new sponsors
to their upcoming 2008/2009 season. All of these new sponsors
will be donating their products to our host rooms adding
to our already impressive sponsorship package.
|
OB Cues, which is short for Owen-Bunnell, Inc., was started
in 2005 after about two years of designing their innovative
OB-1 shaft. The company consists of four partners, Anita
& Don Owen and Mary & Royce Bunnell. Don and Royce
met while playing in the Southwest 8-Ball League in North
Dallas, Texas. They became immediate friends sharing a passion
for the game as well as the science involved with it. Their
OB-1 cue shaft is extremely low “cue ball deflection”
and excels in the areas of feel, control and spin. “Engineered
Consistency” is accomplished by utilizing a combination
of flat laminations of maple and a unique “Radial
Construction” exclusive to the OB-1. OB Cues is a
growing company with all of their products made in the U.S.A.
For more information about the products, visit www.obcues.com.
Cue-Z owned and operated by Nancy L. Cote of Manchester,
N.H. will also be joining us this season. Nancy invented
Billiard Finger Slides a.k.a. the “Unglove”
to replace the traditional three finger glove for a fellow
team member who had problems sweating through his glove.
Now all eight members of her team are using her “Unglove”.
Nancy spends at least thirty hours a week sewing each set
by hand. Another ten hours is spent on shipping and packaging
and thirty more hours selling on the Internet. She does
virtually everything from purchasing, manufacturing, bookkeeping,
advertising and selling! Nancy has developed other products
including the cue tip cover. To learn more about them, visit
www.cuezcuetipcover.blogspot.com.
Zinzola Custom Cues, hand-made by Tony Zinzola of Marlborough,
MA is our third new product sponsor. Tony has only been
making cues since January 2007 but with his background in
creating custom wood furniture, he has already established
himself among cue enthusiasts as a master cue maker. Although
his cues contain beautiful exotic woods and inlays, he is
a stickler for making solid hitting cues. For him it is
not about making a quick profit, it’s about making
a classic cue that will last. Every cue must be of the highest
standards before he will put his name on it. Currently,
Tony is producing 25-50 cues a year and there is already
a substantial waiting period to obtain one of them. For
more information about Zinzola Custom Cues, visit www.zinzola.com.
The Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour would also like to acknowledge
and thank all of our other current loyal sponsors. All of
them have been extremely generous through the years and
deserve praise for all that they have done for us. We encourage
all of our fans and players to purchase, utilize and advertise
their products so that others will benefit from them as
well.

2008-2009 Joss
Northeast 9-Ball Tour Schedule |
I am proud to announce the dates for Mike
Zuglan's Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour's 2008-2009 season.
This will mark our twelfth season of hosting tournaments
in some of the premier rooms in the northeast including
2 more $25,000 added events at the beautiful Turning Stone
Resort And Casino. Our billiard parlor events will, as always,
be Saturday and Sunday 2 day events. The added money for
these events will range from $1,500 to $5,000. Entry fees
are as posted and with the exception of the casino events,
may be paid at the individual event in cash. The Turning
Stone events are pre-pay only and all entries must be paid
to me, Mike Zuglan. The Turning Stone events are also limited
to the first 128 paid players. It is extremely important
to enter these events early as all 11 of the previous ones
have been full with a waiting list!
|
Dan Janes of Joss Cues Ltd. will once again be showing his
generosity by donating for raffle a beautiful $1,000+ custom
cue to each event. So far he has given us approximately
200 of these cues and I will let you do the math. I can
truthfully say that Dan does this only to help support the
rooms, fans and the players.
I am also proud to announce that not only have ALL of our
current sponsors resigned for this season, we are also gaining
2 new ones OB Cues and
Cue-Z. I will be sending out press releases regarding the
new and current sponsors shortly. Potential sponsors should
contact me immediately.
In closing, I would like to thank everyone including our
host rooms, Turning Stone Resort And Casino, our fans, players,
all of our loyal sponsors for allowing me to be your host
of the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour.

Turning Stone Classic
XI - $25,000 ADDED - Verona, NY - August 14-17, 2008 |
|
Karen Corr |
Karen Corr wins Providence Joss Stop |
Mike Zuglan and the Joss NE 9-Ball
Tour was at Snookers Billiards Lounge in Providence, RI with
a field of 60 players competing in a $2000 added event.
Sunday dawned with four unbeaten players and that number was
cut in half when Ivaylo Petro defeated Bob Madenjian 9-5 and
Karen Corr defeated Randy Labonte 9-5.
From there, Corr defeated Petrov 9-5 for the hot-seat.
On the one loss side, Bucky Souvanthong was making his way through
the field with wins over Tom McGonagle, Randy Labonte and Bob
Madenjian. Souvanthong's run came to and end with a hill-hill
loss to Petrov, earning Petrov a rematch with Corr in the finals.
On this day though, Corr was unstoppable as she rolled to a
dominating 9-4 win in the first and only set of the finals.
Corr earned $1600 for the win with Petrov taking home $1100
in second place prize money.
Zuglan indicated that the Turning Stone XI scheduled for August
14 - 17 is filling up fast and interested parties should ge
their entries into Zuglan at 518-356-7163 as soon as possible.

Dan Heidrich
Comes Out Victor at Comet Billiards |
Dan Heidrich |
On Sunday, April 27th, Mike Zuglan’s Joss Northeast 9-Ball
Tour ended its weekend at Comet Billiards in Parsippany, New
Jersey. With a total field of twenty-nine players, the event
offered up a total purse of $4320, but in the end, it was Dan
Heidrich that would come out on top this time around.
Sunday started out with only four players left on the winners
side of the bracket. Dan Heidrich was matched up against Jessie
Ramirez; while Adam Kielar was pitted against Jonathan Smith.
Heidrich ousted Ramirez by a final score of 9-5, and Keilar
finished off Smith 9-6. Both Heidrich and Keilar found themselves
in the hot-seat match and although extremely close throughout
the entire match, Heidrich ended on the better side of the scorecard
with a 9-7 victory under his belt.
The one-loss side commenced with Bucky Souvanthong sending Jason
Michas home 9-4, Carmen Lombardo besting Bob Blackmore in a
marathon set, and Jonathan Smith avenged an earlier loss to
Souvanthong by an eventual 9-5 win. Lombardo then proceeded
to push past Ramirez in the next round 9-7, only to fall to
Smith 9-6 afterwards in the quarters, setting up a semi-final
round between Keilar and Smith. Keilar maintained the momentum
of the set and rolled over Smith 9-2 to ensure his spot in the
finals.
Continuing on with his run, Keilar forced a second set in the
true double elimination final round by overcoming Dan Heidrich
9-3, but by the second set, Heidrich jumped on the train and
took down a five pack after sharing racks initially to capture
the 9-4 tournament win.
Next stop for the tour will be a $2000 added event at Snooker’s
in Providence, Rhode Island, May 3rd-4th. Entries are still
being accepted for the $25000 added Turning Stone Classic XI
to be held August 14th-17th at Turning Stone Casino in Verona,
New York. To ensure your spot, contact Mike Zuglan at (518)
356-7163 immediately. Additional information on this event and
the tour in general can be found at www.joss9balltour.com.

Dennis Hatch |
Dennis Hatch Top Gun at Golden Cue Billiards |
The seventh stop of Mike Zuglan’s
Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour 2008 season drew the north’s
top guns to shoot it out for this $3000 added event. The host
room this weekend (April 19th-20th) was one of the older rooms
in the area of approximately 50 years, Golden Cue Billiards
in Albany, New York. Even with remodeling underway to bring
the room into the modern age, the spectators made their way
in and filled the room to see such top names as Karen Corr,
Mike Zuglan, Dennis Hatch, and Tom D’Alfonso in the total
field of forty-nine players.
When Sunday morning came about, only eight players had made
it back to bring on the competition. They included, on the winners
side, match-ups between Mike Zuglan and Dan Heidrich, along
with Dennis Hatch and Bucky Souvanthong. Both Zuglan and Hatch
power-housed their way throw their opponents with wins of 9-6
(Zuglan v. Heidrich) and 9-2 (Hatch v. Souvanthong). This brought
on a very competitive hot-seat contest between Hatch and Zuglan.
Although the victor of the match ended up being Hatch, Zuglan
offered a hard fought battle in the end being sent to the one-loss
side by a score of 9-7.
On the one-loss side, the first matches of the day saw Tom D’Alfonso
defeat WPBA touring star Karen Corr 9-6 and Eddie Abraham blowout
his opponent, Frank Bess 9-1. Abraham then went on to best Souvanthong
9-5 before ending his weekend to Dan Heidrich 9-4. Heidrich
warmed up prior to his win over Abraham by taking on and defeated
a very sporty D’Alfonso 9-7.
Heidrich continued his hot playing in the semi-final round against
Zuglan as he took down the win 9-1 to move on into the finals
with Hatch. Although the last round is a true double elimination
final, it took only one set to determine a winner for the weekend.
Hatch held Heidrich off and ended with a 9-5 victory and the
$1800 purse.
The next event for the tour will be held at Comet Billiards
in Parsippany, New Jersey this next weekend, April 26th-27th
($2000 added). Also, entries are being accepted for the $25000
added Turning Stone Classic XI to be held August 14th-17th at
Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York. If you have not been
to Turning Stone in the past as a player or spectator, it is
one of the best venues to attend throughout the year. The field
is full months in advance and the location is fantastic - contact
Mike Zuglan immediately if you plan to participate to ensure
your spot.

Kirkwood comes
back for Joss Tour Win |
Jason Kirkwood |
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour was in action the weekend
of April 5-6 for a $2000 added stop at Raxx Pool Room in West
Hempstead, NY.
Top seeds in this one included Tony Robles, Jason Kirkwood and
Mike Zuglan.
Kirkwood dropped to the left side of the board early on Saturday
after a loss to Chuck Altomare and Bobby Blackmore had wins
over both Robles and Zuglan on his way to the hotseat.
Zuglan lost to Blackmore for the hotseat and was then eliminated
by Kirkwood, who had been tearing through the one loss side
ever since the early loss. Kirkwood cruised by Zuglan 9-3 to
leave Zuglan in 3rd place.
The true double elimination finals left Kirkwood in the position
of having to defeat Blackmore twice to earn the tournament win.
The first set was 9-3 with Kirkwood taking the easy win. The
second set saw Kirkwood race to a quick 6-2 lead and hold off
a Blackmore comeback to win the match 9-7.
Kirkwood earned $1400 for first place, while Blackmore pocketed
$950 for second place.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Golden Cue Billiards in Albany,
NY on the weekend of April 19th and 20th for their next event.

Bucky Souvanthong |
Souvanthong holds off Kirkwood for Joss
Tour Win |
Mike Zuglan and the Joss NE 9-Ball
Tour drew a field of 37 players to Classic Billiards in Rochester,
NY on the weekend of March 29 - 30 for a $2000 added tour stop.
The winners side came down to Joss Tour regular Bucky Souvanthong
vs Dan Heidrich. Heidrich had just finished sending Jason Kirkwood
to the one loss side 9-6, but he came up short against Souvanthong
9-7.
On the one loss side, Heidrich found Kirkwood waiting. Kirkwood
had dispatched local Pat Howey as well as Ron Cosanzio, and
was now looking for revenge against Heidrich. Kirkwood would
have his revenge with a 9-5 win over Heidrich.
The true double elimination finals came down to Souvanthong
vs Kirkwood and Kirkwood made quick work of Souvanthong in the
first set 9-3. The second set stayed close all the way and came
down to a tie at hill-hill with one game to determine the winner.
Both players had chances in the final rack, but it was Souvanthong
who pocketed the case 9-ball and collected the first prize of
$1500.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Raxx Pool Room and Grill
in West Hempstead, NY next weekend (April 5-6) for their next
event. Zuglan is still taking sign-ups for the Turning Stone
Classic XI which will take place on August 14-17 at the Turning
Stone Casino in Verona, NY.

Hatch wins Joss
NE 9-Ball Tour Syracuse Stop |
Dennis Hatch, Dickie Cappotto, Andrew Attard
& Mike Zuglan |
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour returned from their
regular Turning Stone Classic break with a $1500 added event
at Cap's Cue Club in Syracuse, NY. Tour director Mike Zuglan
wanted to give special thanks at this event to Joe Neri who
helped sponsor the tour stop.
This tournament saw Dennis Hatch continue his hot play that
he displayed at Turning Stone, but it wasn't easy. Hatch took
the hot-seat with a nail-biting 9-8 win over Andrew Attard.
Attard went to the left side of the board and defeated Bucky
Souvanthong 9-7 to earn another shot at Hatch in the finals.
The finals were another close match, but Hatch came out on the
winning side again; this time by the score of 9-7.
Zuglan wanted to remind players that the next $25000 added Turning
Stone event is on August 14th - 17th. Player entries are coming
in faster than usual this time and players are urged to contact
Mike Zuglan asap to secure their spot.

Jeremy Sossei and Johnny Archer |
Archer and Sossei Finish off Turning Stone
Classic X |
The Turning Stone Classic X has
finally drawn to a close and what a fantastic story came out
of this week. This venue brings out the best and worst in players
due to the field of champions that make the trip to Verona,
non-stop intense play, and overwhelming arena setting.
One young player out of Connecticut, Jeremy Sossei, brought
his solid and methodical play to the event and made a huge splash
with those that did not already know his name. Sossei took the
bull by the horns and purposefully maintained his efforts to
dominate one opponent after another starting with Ewa Laurance
9-1, George Lord 9-1, Chris Lazarovitch 9-3, Dan Doerner 9-5,
Louis Rios 9-4, and Ronnie Wiseman 9-7. Sossei did not allow
an opponent to achieve more than five games in any set until
he ran into Wiseman on the final day of the event. Sossei’s
next set against Johnny Archer in the hot-seat cooled him down
only slightly as he jumped ahead to a 6-2 lead, but ultimately
fell to Archer 9-7.
Archer made his way to the hot-seat match by dominating the
top section of the winners bracket with wins over Justin Acker
9-2, a nail biting match with Vermont’s Dave Fernandez
9-8, Edwin Montal 9-4, Bucky Souvanthong 9-5, Mike Wallace 9-1,
and on Sunday passing Tony Chohan in a tight set 9-7.
On the one-loss side Sunday, Mika Immonen and Louis Ulrich got
down to business, with Immonen progressing quickly by a final
of 9-3. Stevie Moore was also eliminated by Dennis Hatch 9-5
as Hatch progressed toward his goal of earning top honors. Hatch
then moved on to best Immonen 9-6 and found himself locked in
with Sossei in the semi-finals. It would be Sossei that would
take control of the semis to force Hatch to settle for a respectable
third place finish as Sossei wasted no time and took down mighty
Hatch handily 9-2 to have his chance at the one man that defeated
him this entire week.
In the final round (one race to thirteen), Sossei battled it
out with Archer in the approximately three hour match, but succumbed
to him by a close final score of 13-8. We look forward to seeing
quite a bit more from this up-and-coming young champion in the
year to come and congratulate Johnny Archer on being the Turning
Stone Classic X Champion.

Dechaine wins
Joss NE 9-Ball Tour Event |
Mike Dechaine |
Mike Zuglan and his Joss NE 9-Ball Tour welcomed
a field of 40 players to Comet Billiards in Parsippany, NJ over
the weekend of January 26-27 to compete for the $5200 prize
fund.
Mike Dechaine quickly distanced himself from the field in this
one, as he went on to defeat WPBA star Karen Corr 9-6 for the
hot seat.
On the one loss side, Corr ran into a red hot Bucky Souvanthong.
Souvanthong had lost to Dechaine on Saturday, and Corr was his
last obstacle before having a chance to revenge against Dechaine.
Corr fell to Souvanthong 9-6, setting up the rematch between
Souvanthong and Dechaine in the true double elimination finals.
The first set of the finals was close all the way, with Souvanthong
taking the set 9-8 and forcing a second set. The second set
started out to be a repeat of the last one with both players
tied at 1-1, 2-2 and 3-3. As the match went on, Dechaine slowly
pulled ahead and ended up crossing the finish line first at
9-6.
This is the last Joss event before the Turning Stone Classic
X on February 21 - 24 at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY.
This event is full, but Zuglan is taking names for a waiting
list. Interested players should contact Zuglan at 518-356-7163
to have their name added to the list.

Shin Young Park
Tops at Diamond Eight Billiards |
The Joss Northeast Tour dropped into Diamond Eight Billiards
in Latham, New York, the weekend of January 19th and 20th
with yet another fantastic $2000 added season event. Included
in the field of forty-five players that made their way through
the brackets were not only many top northern regional players,
but a few from outside of the area as well.
The weekend came to an end with Shin Young Park sitting pretty
atop the winners side hot seat after sending Tony Chohan to
the one-loss side in a close ending of 9-7. On the one-loss
side, Mike Zuglan was sending players home one at a time after
losing his first match to Marc Vidal. In his quest to reach
the final round, Zuglan eventually ran into Vidal yet again,
but ensured a different outcome as he bested him 9-5 which
pitted him against Chohan in the semi-finals. With a win over
Chohan of 9-7, Zuglan matched up
with Park in the true double elimination final round, where
he then took the first set from Park 9-7. Park fought back
against Zuglan in the second set and ended the event with
a 9-5 win to settle into first place.
The next tour stop will be January 26th-27th at Comet Billiards
in Parsippany, New Jersey. Also, just a quick reminder –
the Turning Stone Classic X will be held February 21-24, 2008.
If you have not already sent in your entry, time is running
out as there are only fifteen spots remaining. For more information
on this or any Joss Northeast Tour event,

Altomare undefeated
for Joss Tour Win |
A field of
46 players descended on Raxx Pool Room in West Hempstead,
NY on the weekend of December 8th and 9th for the weekend
stop on the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour.
Chuck Altomare proved to be the man to beat on this weekend.
He had his way with Jason Michas 9-3 in the hot-seat match,
sending Michas to the left side of the board.
On the one loss side, Michas took an early lead over Eddie
Abraham and then held off a late charge to win the match 9-8
and earn another shot against Altomare in the finals.
The finals saw Michas start out hot and take an early 6-3
lead. Six games would be all that Michas would get though,
as Altomare won six straight games for the 9-6 win.
Altomare earned $1580 for first, while Michas took home $1100
in second place prize money.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will now take their customary break
and return on January 19th and 20th at Diamond Eight Billiards
in Albany, NY. Mike Zuglan is taking sign-ups for the Turning
Stone Classic X 9-Ball Open at Turning Stone Casino in Verona,
NY on February 21 - 24. This event is limited to 128 players
and filling fast. Zuglan can be reached at 518-356-7163.

Dan Heidrich wins
Joss NE 9-Ball Tour Stop |
The Joss NE
9-Ball Tour was in action on the weekend of December 1st and
2nd at Ballbusters Billiards in Binghamton NY with a field
of 34 players competing for $4720 in prize money.
With some of the tour's usual heavyweights competing in other
events, the field was wide open for another new player to
make their way to the winners circle.
Dan Heidrich emerged from the winners side to take the hot-seat
with a 9-8 win over Chance Chin on Sunday.
Chin earned another shot at Heidrich in the finals after he
eliminated Lyn Wechsler 9-5 on the one loss side.
Unfortunately for Chin, it was deju-vu all over again as Heidrich
scored another 9-8 win in the first set of the finals.
Heidrich earned $1300 for first place; his first win on the
Joss Tour. Chin settled for $920 in prize money.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Raxx Pool Room and Grill
in West Hempstead, NY next weekend for a $2000 added event.
Mike Zuglan is also taking sign-ups for the Turning Stone
Classic X 9-Ball Open at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY
on February 21 - 24. This event filled up last time and a
number of top pros were not able to play. Zuglan can be reached

Jeremy Sossei stuns Robles for Ocean State
9-Ball Win |
Sixty seven players made their
way to Snookers Pool Lounge in Providence, RI on the weekend
of November 17th and 18th for the 19th Annual Ocean State 9-Ball
Championship. Previous winners of this prestigious $5000 added
event include George San Souci, Mika Immonen, Danny Basavich
and Mike Zuglan.
This year, there was no shortage of top players with Dennis
Hatch, Tony Robles, San Souci and Joe Tucker all in attendance.
The match for the hot-seat saw Tony Robles send San Souci to
the one loss side by the score of 9-5 leaving Robles comfortably
sitting in the hot-seat waiting for his opponent in the finals.
On the one loss side, San Souci ran into a determined Jeremy
Sossei. Sossei had lost to Mike Dechaine on Saturday, but had
been running through players on the one loss side all day Sunday.
Sossei had Sunday wins over Kevin Guimond, Joey Testa, Dennis
Hatch and Joe Tucker. San Souci was soon added to that list
by the score of 9-7.
Sossei would have his hands full with the task of beating Tony
Robles twice in the finals, but the first set went his way 9-5
to force a second set. Sossei led the second set 8-4, but Robles
would not be the champion that he is if he simply gave up when
he was down. Robles ran three racks and then won a fourth rack
to tie the score at 8-8 and leave the players playing one game
for the title. The final game became a safety battle and it
was Robles that blinked first with a weak safety allowing Sossei
to take control and run out the final rack.
Sossei earned $2500 for the win, his first on the Joss Tour.
Robles settled for $1700 in second place prize money.

Hatch Repeats
on Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour |
Mike Dechaine, Owner, John Fargo and Brunswick;
and Dennis Hatch |
Gold Crown Billiards in New London, Connecticut,
was the host room the weekend of November 10-11, 2007, for the
latest Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour. This $2000 added event brought
in a total field of thirty-five players, including such local
favorites as Chuck Altomare, Jeremy Sossei, Joe Tucker, and
Dennis Hatch.
The big story of the weekend ended up being Dennis Hatch yet
again. In the last Joss event, Hatch ran through the field undefeated
to take home first place honors – this weekend was no
different. Hatch sent Mike Dechaine to the one-loss side during
the quarter finals with a score of 9-4, and then moved on to
defeat Chuck Altomare 9-4 for the winner’s side hot seat.
On the one-loss side, Mike Dechaine started his quest for the
finals with Joe Tucker. Tucker was unable to hold off Dechaine
in the end with a 9-7 loss. The next to step-up to attempt to
stop Dechaine was Jeremy Sossei, but unfortunately the final
was exactly the same – after a tough battle, Sossei gave
way to Dechaine 9-7. By the time Dechaine made his way to Chuck
Altomare, he must have caught a gear as he finished off Altomare
with a 9-0 conclusion.
This set-up the true double elimination final round with Dennis
Hatch and one-loss side bracket winner Mike Dechaine. Unfortunately
for Dechaine, there was no need for the second set as Hatch
jumped into action steam rolling over him with a final score
of 9-3.
The next tour stop, The 19th Annual Ocean State Championship,
will be held at Snookers Pool Lounge in Providence, Rhode Island
November 17th and 18th with play beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
This $5000 added event will be a “Banner Tournament”
– a permanent banner will feature the winner and hang
from the rafters at Snookers. The races will be to nine, double
elimination, with a $125 entry fee.

Dennis Hatch |
Dennis Hatch Hot at Hippo’s House
of Billiards |
The Joss Northeast Tour made
a stop into Hippo’s House of Billiards in Yorkville, New
York on November 3rd and 4th. This $1500 added event brought
in yet another tough field of thirty-three challengers to brawl
their way through to Sunday.
When Sunday morning arrived, the winners side of the bracket
reflected matches between Dennis Hatch and Dan Heidrich, and
Bucky Souvanthong and Hongsavady Vongxay. Hatch and Souvanthong
managed to quickly send Heidrick (9-1) and Vongxay (9-3) to
the one-loss side. The hot seat match, as would be expected,
was a much closer set with Hatch pulling out the win over Souvanthong
9-7.
The one-loss side saw Tournament Director Mike Zuglan knock
out Damon Sobers 9-8, Hongsavady Vongxay 9-7, Norm Pomainville
9-5, and Bucky Souvanthong 9-7 before making his way to the
final round with Hatch.
Since the final set is a true double elimination round, Zuglan
had to score wins over Hatch twice. The first set ended up being
a game for game match with the score remaining very close until
it reached 5-5. At that time, Zuglan proceeded to run the final
four racks and took the set 9-5. The second set would be a different
story - Hatch picked up momentum after he won the first game,
then played safe in the second game. After that, Hatch preceded
to run five racks to yield a 6-0 score on the board. Zuglan
was unable to get out on the following rack and allowed Hatch
back to the table to jump on the hill first. The ninth rack
went to Zuglan, but that would be the last that he would acquire
as Hatch finished out the set 9-1.

Kong over Corr
for Joss Tour Win |
The third stop
on the new Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's season was held at Comet
Billiards in Parsippany, NJ on October 27th and 28th with
a field of 39 players competing for over $5000 in prize money.
The first two stops were notable in that they each saw first
time tour winners come out on top. This stop continued that
streak.
The winners side came down to tour director Mike Zuglan and
Joey Kong for the hot-seat. This match was won by Kong 9-8.
On the one loss side, Karen Corr was crushing her opponents
and Zuglan ended up her next victim by the score of 9-5.
The finals between Kong and Corr saw Kong race out to a quick
7-0 lead. The players traded games to take the score to 8-1
before Corr made her run. Corr won five straight games to
only trail by two at 8-6, but that was as close as she would
get as Kong won the next game for the 9-6 win.
Kong earned $1300 for his first win on tour, and Corr settled
for $900.

Mike Dechaine earns
first Joss Tour win |
The Joss NE
9-Ball Tour drew a field of 32 players to Trick Shot Billiards
in Clifton Park, NY on the weekend of September 29 - 30 to
share in the $4560 in tournament prize money.
The story this weekend was the play of Mike Dechaine. Dechaine
made his way to the quarter finals undefeated, where he beat
Bucky Souvanthong 9-5 for the hot-seat.
On the one loss side, Souvanthong lost to Hatch. Hatch had
been making his way through the one loss side ever since a
late Saturday loss to Pete Bowman.
Hatch's win over Souvanthong led to a showdown with Dechaine
in the double elimination finals.
The first match between Hatch and Dechaine was a real nail
biter that only saw Hatch take control at the end. Hatch scored
a 9-7 win to force a second set. The second set saw Dechaine
take a small lead and fight Hatch off for a 9-7 win of his
own.
Dechaine earned $1300 for first place, his first Joss NE 9-Ball
Tour stop win.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Comet Billiards in Parsippany,
NJ on October 27th and 28th for a $2000 added event.
Joss Tour director Mike Zuglan is taking sign-ups now for
the Turning Stone Classic X 9-Ball Open on February 21st -

Marc Vidal wins
Joss Tour Season Opener |
The Joss NE
9-Ball Tour started their 2007/2008 season with a $3000 added
event at TJ's Classic Billiards in Waterville, ME.
This tournament belonged to Marc Vidal, who was unstoppable.
Vidal defeated Mike Dechaine 9-7 for the hot-seat and then
Dechaine fell to Chuck Altomare by the same 9-7 score in the
semi-finals.
Altomare had lost to Vidal earlier in the tournament and was
hoping for revenge in the finals, but it quickly became apparent
that was not going to happen. Vidal cruised to a 9-3 win in
the first set.
Vidal earned $1400, while Altomare settled for $940.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Trick Shot Billiards &

schedule will consist of 16 billiard parlor events and 2 $25,000
Added events at the beautiful, Turning Stone Resort and Casino
(Verona, NY). These casino events are scheduled for February

This season, the prestigious $5,000 Added, 19th Ocean State
9-Ball Championship held at Snooker’s Pool Lounge (Providence,
RI) is scheduled for November 17 & 18, 2007. This season
we welcome two new rooms, T.J.’s and Gold Crown Billiards
(New London, CT). Thank You to all of our host rooms!
Once again this season, Dan Janes of Joss Cues Ltd. is donating
a $1,000, custom engraved cue for each event! In the past
ten seasons, I estimate Dan has donated approximately 200
or more custom cues! Thanks again, Dan. We couldn’t
do it without you. I would also like to thank all of our loyal
and generous sponsors who combine to make our tour what many
believe to be the best. Why not come out and see for yourself!
