Turning Stone Taken
by Mike Dechaine |
The Turning Stone Classic always
delivers a few big upsets over the first two days play. So it
was no surprise (or maybe it was) to see Johnny Archer dispatched
to the losers side of the bracket in his first match on Thursday.
The match against Blaine Barcus began in Archers' favor with
a 6-1 lead. About 45 minutes later the center isle jammed with
spectators as Barcus rose from the dead to make his challenge.
The match had then a score line of 8-8 with Barcus (a relatively
unknown player from the Houston area in Texas) at the table
with only the last three balls left on the table. His nerves
were twitching as he came up a little short on the 9 ball, leaving
a much tighter cut into the bottom corner pocket. After a little
deliberation he sunk the 9 ball to the delight of the huge crowd.
Late on Friday in the 8:00 pm matches we saw two more major
upsets as last year's winner Shane Van Boening got trounced
by Ron Casanzio 9-5. The other upset was Mika Immonen being
handed his transfer papers to the losers side by Hunter Lombardo
9-6. No one works harder at his game than Lombardo, so this
is a result that is due after much practice and dedication.
It is unique that this 128-player field always delivers significant
upsets, with regional “A” players hitting their
best game just at the right time, and knocking many of the favorites
into the losers side of the draw or out of the tournament altogether.
However, as usually is the case these killers have usually packed
their bags and are on their way home come late on Saturday!
But at least they will have their memories of the kill that
they will be telling for the next ten years.
In Saturdays 8:00 pm round of four winners and four losers matches,
we saw in the winners side matches Raj Hundal dispatch Tommy
D’alfonso 9-6 into the one lose side. Mario Morra, who
was surprising opponents with his stellar play, took down Donny
Mills 9-5. Mike Dechaine was still in his winning mode as he
beat Rodney Morris in a close match on the hill, with Rodney
hanging up the 8 ball in the final game to allow Mike to get
the surprise win. In the last winners side match we saw Shawn
Putnam beat up on Corey Deuel in a one sided match at 9-4 to
Putnam.
It would be “All she wrote” for the losers in the
four losers side matches as we saw Johnny (never count me out)
Archer demolish Oscar Dominguez 9-1 ending the young guns run.
One of the newest and brightest prospects in professional pool
today, Brandon Shuff, took down Stevie Moore 9-3 in a lop sided
affair. The very much improved Hunter Lombardo dispatched the
last “outsider” inthe event, Mr. Ron Casanzio from
upstate New York, who had gained the eyes of the fans when he
upset Archer on Thursday. Finally we saw Jeremy Sossei (second
in 2009 to Johnny Archer) dispose of Matt Krah in a close match
at 9-7.
The last four matches at 10:0 pm on Saturday were all losers
side matches. We saw Brandon Shuff end the run of Tommy D’alfonso
9-5. Rodney Morris put paid to Johnny Archers chances of another
win from the losers side when he dealt him a 9-5 score line.
Donny Mills bounced back well after his loss to Mario Morra
in his previous round, as he got by Hunter Lombardo 9-7. In
the last of the four matches we saw Jeremy Sossei take down
Corey Deuel with an impressive score of 9-4.
Sundays 11:0 am matches would be two winners and two losers
matches. The first of the two winners matches was Raj Hundal
against Mike Dechaine, in a match that started off close to
a tied score of 4-4. But Mike soon ran away with the match allowing
Raj to only put one more bead on the wire at 9-5. At this point
in the proceedings all the pundits in the crowd were touting
Dechaine to take down the event. The next winners match was
between Shawn Putnam and Mario Morra. Mario was still commanding
the table as he hung in there to 7-7 before Shawn took the last
two games, closing it out at 9-7.
In the first of the losers matches we saw an in-form Donny Mills
helping his bank balance as he beat Jeremy Sossei 9-4 to end
Jeremy’s run in the event. In the other losers match we
saw Brandon Shuff continue his winning ways as he got by Rodney
Morris in a close match with 9-8.
In the 1:00 pm matches we had two losers matches to see who
would be in the losers final at 3:00 pm. Brandon Shuff was playing
lights out and absolutely annihilated Mario Morra, as 9-2. Next
up we had Donny Mills who made a strong statement as he got
past Raj Hundal 9-6. It was good to see the “Hitman”
making the trip over the pond for this event, but he would have
to settle for 5/6th place this year, having come second to Shane
Van Boening last year.
The excitement was growing now as we were getting closer to
the nitty gritty with the two 3:00 pm matches deciding who would
be in the hot seat, and which one of the losers would get to
play the loser from the hot seat match. The hot seat match comprised
of Mike Dechaine against Shawn Putnam, and did not follow the
betting line as Shawn only allowed Mike to put two beads on
the wire at 9-2. Wow, had Mike finally imploded we were thinking,
or can he regroup.
The losers match was between Brandon Shuff and Donny Mills,
the winner getting the chance to play Mike Dechaine for a chance
to get into the final. Shuff immediately stamped his authority
on the match and steamed ahead to 9-3 to earn the chance to
win one more match to get to play Mr. Putnam.
The 5:00 pm match between Mike Dechaine and Brandon Shuff was
(at one point) close at 4-4, but then Dechaine turned on some
scintillating play that allowed Shuff to win just two more games,
resulting in a final score of 9-6.
In the 7:00 pm race to 13 final we were to witness what would
be a display of great shot making from 25 year old Mike Dechaine
that will be remembered by the spectators and the live stream
viewers for some time to come. This young man (who is known
for his aggressive play) just tightened the tourniquet around
Putnam’s neck and he won rack after rack until the scoring
ended at 13-4 in his favor.
In winning this event Dechaine has also jumped from 3rd place
to 2nd place in the points race to get on the Mosconi Cup USA
team. With only the US Open available for further points Dechaine
looks as though he will be booking a ticket to London in December.
Once again this fantastic, smoothly run event has come and gone,
and it has established itself as one of the top events in the
country.
Thanks must go out to Mike Zuglan and his trusty crew, and the
Turning Stone Casino and Hotel staff that made this event run
so smoothly. Thanks must also go out to AZ Billiards and Accu-Stats
Video Productions for making their FREE LIVE STREAM facility
available to the public.
Congratulations also to Mike Dechaine for a great performance
that garnered him this years Turning Stone Classic XIX 9-ball
Title.

Burford
crushes D'Alfonso in Joss Tour Finals |
Phil Burford |
Phil Burford made the most of his pool playing
trip to the US, as the British import redefined the word "dominating"
in the finals of the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop at Snookers Billiards
in Providence, RI.
Burford and Tom D'Alfonso made their way untouched through the
field of 65 other players, to face off for the hot-seat late
on Sunday. Burford already had a lopsided win over Mike Dechaine
to his credit in this event, but he came up short in the match
against D'Alfonso with a scoreline of 9-5. That would not be
the last that D'Alfonso would see Burford on this day though.
Burford went to the left side of the board and eked out the
closest of 9-8 win over Jeremy Sossei to earn another shot at
D'Alfonso in the finals.
Having already lost once, Burford would have beat D'Alfonso
twice in the finals, and he got off to a great start with a
9-1 win over D'Alfonso in the first set of the finals. Just
to prove that the first set was no fluke, Burford did himself
one better with a 9-0 win over D'Alfonso in the second set of
the finals.
Twenty players who had already been eliminated on Saturdya,
came back on Sunday to compete in the second chance event. That
event saw Josh Gormly come back from an earlier loss to defeat
Chris Coviello 3-1 twice in the finals to earn first place.
This event was the final event before the Turning Stone Classic
XIX, which will take place at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona,
NY on August 23-26. Tour director Mike Zuglan stressed that
there are "very few" spots left for this event and
interested players are urged to call Mike at 518-356-7163.

Innes notches
first Joss Tour win at NE 9-Ball Open XXV |
Angelo Innes
scored his first ever Joss NE 9-Ball Tour victory over the
weekend of April 14th and 15th at the NE 9-Ball Open XXV held
at the Golden Cue in Albany, NY.
Innes took the direct route through the field of 44 other
players and was sitting in the hot-seat undefeated after a
close 9-7 win over Chance Chin in the winners side finals.
Chin then dropped a 9-5 match to Jeremy Sossei on the one
loss side, and was forced to settle for third place.
Sossei had been sent to the left side on Saturday by tour
director Mike Zuglan, and had battled back all day Sunday
to earn his place in the finals against Innes. On paper, Sossei
may have been the match favorite, and he did reach the hill
first in the first set of the finals. Innes quickly joined
Sossei on the hill at 8-8 and broke the rack for the case
game. In what could have been a perfect Hollywood ending,
Innes made a ball and saw a 1-9 carom line up for him. One
shot later, Innes had earned his first Joss tour victory.
Innes took home $1000 for first, while Sossei pocketed $730
for second.
The second chance event on Sunday drew 22 players fighting
it out for $940 in prize money.
That event saw Paul Rozonewski take the hot-seat with a 3-1
win over Bill Cote.
Cote then came back strong and scored a 3-0 win over Bud Robideau
to earn another shot at Rozonewski in the finals.
Cote kept his strong play going and defeated Rozonewski 3-0
in the first set of the finals, but fell short as Rozonewski
won the final set 3-1.
Rozonewski earned $340 for first and Cote settled for $220
in second place prize money.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will take the rest of April and May
off and be back in action June 9th-10th at Snookers in Providence,
RI. After that event, the tour will head to Verona New York
for the Turning Stone Classic XIX. Mike Zuglan still urges
all players to get their entries for the Turning Stone event
as it is filling fast. Players can call Zuglan at 518-356-7163.

Rodriguez double dips
Dechaine at Raxx |
Usually when Mike Dechaine takes
the hot-seat at an event, it is a foregone conclusion that he
will win the event. As a matter of fact, Dechaine himself could
not remember ever being double dipped in his career as a pro
pool player. Somehow, Jorge Rodriguez didn't get the memo about
Dechaine's final match record before the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour
event at Raxx Billiards in West Hempstead, NY over the March
31-April 1 weekend.
The field of 38 players at Raxx included such heavy hitters
as Dechaine, Mika Immonen, Hunter Lombardo, Jeremy Sossei, Robb
Saez, Shaun Wilkie, Zion Zvi and Jennifer Barretta.
Dechaine cruised through his early match, only dropping seven
games across three different matches. He would be tested in
his fourth match, a hill-hill win over Mika Immonen. Meanwhile,
Jorge Rodriguez was cruising right along with a dominating performance
of his own. Rodriguez won his first match 9-5 over Ray Lee,
but would not face another serious test before facing Dechaine.
The hot-seat went to Dechaine 9-2 and it looked like Dechaine
would be adding another tournament win to his resume soon enough.
On the one loss side, Rodriguez eliminated Zion Zvi. Zvi had
lost to Jeremy Sossei on Saturday, but bounced back with six
"W"s on the left side including wins over Saez, Wilkie,
Lombardo and Immonen.
The first match of the double elimination finals was a close
one, with Rodriguez edging Dechaine 9-7. In the second set,
the wheels completely fell off for Dechaine as Rodriguez dominated
the match for a 9-3 win.
Rodriguez earned $1000 for first, while Dechaine settled for
$750 and a little humility to take back home with him.
The second chance tournament on Sunday saw Phil Davis pushed
to two sets before defeating Raj Vannala in the finals. Davis
defeated Brent Boemmels for the hot-seat and then lost the first
set of the finals to Vannala 3-2. The second set saw Davis get
back on track and win the match 3-0 for the tournament win.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's next event will be the NE 9-Ball Open
XXV at Golden Cue Billiards in Albany on April 14th and 15th.
Players are still urged to contact Mike Zuglan soon in order
to reserve their spot in the season finale at Turning Stone
Casino on August 23 - 26. Mike can be reached at 518-356-7163.

and Crowe score Joss Tour Wins |
Dennis Hatch |
Dennis Hatch and Jerry Crowe won events over
the weekend of March 24th - 25th at Salt City Billiards in Syracuse,
NY.
The main event saw 27 players competing and Dennis Hatch scoring
yet another undefeated run through the field. Hatch took the
hot-seat with a very close 9-7 win over tour points leader Bucky
Souvanthong.
On the one loss side, Souvanthong found Nelson Oliviera waiting.
Souvanthong had had no problem with Oliviera on the winners
side, defeating Nelson 9-3. Oliviera was more than happy to
return the favor this time with a 9-3 win over Souvanthong.
Oliviera's strong play in the match against Souvanthong was
no match for Hatch in the finals as Dennis ran away with a dominating
9-4 win for another tournament win.
The second chance tournament on Sunday saw Jerry Crowe take
the hot-seat with a 3-0 win over Ed Saur. Saur came back from
the left side after a 3-1 win over Tim Parisian and the two
players squared off again in the double elimination finals.
Saur won the first set of the finals 3-1, but Crowe came back
to win the final set 3-2 for the tournament win.
The Joss NE 9-Ball tour will be at Raxx Billiards in West Hempstead,
NY next weekend (March 31 - April 1) for a $2000 added weekend.
$1500 will be added to the main event and $500 will be added
to the second chance tournament.
Players are still urged to contact Mike Zuglan soon in order
to reserve their spot in the season finale at Turning Stone
Casino on August 23 - 26. Mike can be reached at 518-356-7163.

Casanzio wins Clifton
Park Joss Tour Stop |
Ron Casanzio notched his second
Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop win of the year at Trick Shots Billiards
in Clifton Park, NY on the weekend of March 17th and 18th.
Casanzio made his way through the field of 35 players and took
the hot-seat with a hill-hill win over Jeremy Sossei.
Sossei then dropped the semi-final match to Greg Antonakos 9-6.
Antonakos had been undefeated all day Saturday, but lost to
Casanzio midway through Sunday play.
The final match was true double elimination, and Casanzio would
need both sets as he dropped the first set to Antonakos 9-6.
Casanzio got things together in the second set of the finals
and won 9-5 for first place in the event.
The second chance tournament on Sunday saw seventeen players
battle it out. When the smoke cleared, it was Doug Wells holding
off a late charge from Bruce Carroll to win the event.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour is at Salt City Billiards in Syracuse,
NY next weekend (March 24th - 25th).

Dechaine
holds off Oliveira for Joss Tour Win |
Mike Dechaine |
Home field advantage proved to be helpful at
the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's 3rd Annual New England Pool &
Billiards Hall Of Fame Ray Desell Memorial 9-Ball Open held
on March 3rd and 4th at Snooker's Billiards in Providence, RI
as housepro Mike Dechaine held off a late charge to win the
event.
Dechaine made his way through the field of 71 players and it
looked like it would be another easy tournament for "The
Fireball" when he defeated Hunter Lombardo 9-3 for the
hot-seat.
Hunter then fell to Nelson Oliveira on the one loss side 9-5.
Oliveira had lost a match to Jeremy Sossei on Saturday and had
battled his way to the finals via the long route.
The first set of the double elimination finals was a close one
and the players found themselves tied at 7-7 when Dechaine got
the chance he was waiting for. An Oliveira scratch on the break
let Dechaine to the table with the chance to get to the hill
first, but Dechaine was unable to take advantage and clear the
rack. Oliveira ended up winning that game and the next to win
the first set 9-7.
Dechaine came out strong in the second set and lead 3-0 and
4-1, but Oliveira came back and again tied the match at 7-7.
This time, the tables were turned, and it was Dechaine winning
the final two games for the 9-7 win and first place in the tournament.
The second chance tournament on Sunday drew 25 players and Rich
Britt defeated Stacie Bourbeau for the hot-seat and again in
the finals to earn first place.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be back in action at Trick Shot
Billiards in Clifton Park, NY in two weeks (March 17-18) for
their next event.
Zuglan is now taking entries for the season finale at the Turning
Stone Casino in Verona, NY on August 23 - 26. These always fill

Casanzio goes undefeated
for Joss Tour Win |
Ron Casanzio went through a field
of 45 other players undefeated, including back to back wins
over Tour Director Mike Zuglan, to win the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour
stop at Sharpshooters Billiards in Amsterdam, Ny.
Casanzio's first win over Zuglan happened in the hot-seat match,
where he scored a lopsided 9-4 win over the tour's longtime
tour director.
After Zuglan eliminated Joss Tour Points Leader Bucky Souvanthong,
Casanzio notched an identical 9-4 win over Zuglan in the first
set of the double elimination finals.
Casanzio earned $1000 for his undefeated run, while Zuglan settled
for $750 in prize money.
The second chance tournament went a little different than the
main event. Local player Mike LaBoissiere took the hot-seat
with a win over Bob Cunningham in this 25 player affair.
Cunningham then lost to Bruce Carroll, who proceeded to score
a 3-2 and then a 3-0 win over LaBoissiere for the win.
Carroll pocketed $350 for the win, and LaBoissiere took home
$250 for second place.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Snookers in Providence, RI
over the weekend of March 3-4 for their next stop; the 3rd Annual
New England Billiard Hall of Fame 9-Ball Open. That event will
feature a total of $3000 in added money between the main event
and the second chance tournament.
Zuglan is now taking entries for the season finale at the Turning

Sossei
undefeated in Milford |
Jeremy Sossei |
Jeremy Sossei helped the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour
kick off 2012 with an undefeated (and untested) run through
a field of 56 other players at Fast Eddie's Billiards Cafe in
New Milford, Ct.
Sossei raced through play on both January 7th and 8th without
allowing any opponents to even get close to him. Chance Chin
and Damian Provost both won five games before Sossei got to
nine and that was the closest an opponent would get to him.
Sossei took the hot-seat with a 9-4 win over Vinny Zuniga, a
player who had been away from the tour for a few years, by the
score of 9-4. After Zuniga eliminated Nick Conner 9-5, the rematch
between Sossei and Zuniga was on. The rematch would go just
as quickly as the hot-seat match though, was Sossei won 9-2
to capture first place.
Sossei pocketed $1100 for first place, while Zuniga settled
for $800 in second place prize money. The second place finish
was the best finish Zuniga has turned in on the Joss NE 9-Ball
Tour.
The second chance event on Sunday drew twelve players, and Steve
Mack was the winner with an undefeated run through the field
that included a 3-1 win over Brent Boemmels in the finals.
Players are reminded that the next Joss NE 9-Ball tour event
will not be at Diamond 8 as had originally been scheduled. That
stop has been cancelled and the next stop will instead be at
Sharp Shooters Billiards (Formerly Main Street Billiards) in
Amsterdam NY on February 18th and 19th.

Van Boening wins Turning
Stone Classic XVIII |
Shane Van Boening added another
entry to his already impressive resume, with a win at the last
major event of the year; the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's Turning Stone
Classic XVIII at the Turning Stone Casino & Resort in Verona,
NY.
Van Boening took an early trip to the one loss side in this
event, as he dropped a fourth round match to Shawn Putnam 9-8.
Putnam would then lose his next match to Rodney Morris 9-5 and
join Van Boening on the one loss side.
Morris would continue through the winners side, until he lost
to Raj Hundal 9-4 in a lackluster hot seat match.
Hundal was having a great tournament with notable wins over
John Morra, young gun Dustin Morris and Ralf Souquet on his
way to the hot-seat match with Morris.
Meanwhile, Van Boening was running through a very tough one
loss side. Van Boening notched left side wins against Larry
Nevel, Joss Tour points leader Bucky Souvanthong, Earl Strickland,
Dennis Hatch, Mike Dechaine and Ralf Souquet before eliminating
Rodney Morris to set up the match with Hundal in the extended
single set finals.
The final race to 13 match between Hundal and Van Boening went
back and forth, with neither player able to capture a significant
lead. With the score tied at 8-8, Van Boening started to take
control of the match. Hundal would only manage one more rack
as Van Boening won the match 13-9. |

D'Alfonso
holds off red hot Dechaine in Ocean State Finals |
Tom D'Alfonso |
A field of 64 players made their way to Snookers
in Providence, RI to take their shot at having their name hung
in the rafters next to such notables as Mika Immonen, Francisco
Bustamante, George San Souci, Danny Basavich, Dennis Hatch,
Mike Zuglan and other winners of the Ocean State 9-Ball Championship.
With an all star field that contained such notables as Mike
Dechaine, Mike Davis, Stevie Moore, Jeremy Sossei, Tom D'Alfonso,
Brittany Bryant and Jennifer Barretta, it was D'Alfonso who
came away with the win.
D'Alfonso positioned himself as the man to beat as he defeated
Matt Tetreault 9-2 for the hot-seat. Meanhile, on the left side
of the board, marquee players were in a dog-fight to determine
who would take on Tetreault in order to earn their shot in the
finals. That player would The Fireball, Mike Dechaine. Dechaine
had dropped a match to Mike Davis on Saturday, but came back
through the one loss side and defeated Tetreault 9-5 to set
up the true double elimination finals.
Dechaine kept his momentum going in the first set of the finals
and scorched D'Alfonso 9-3 to set up the second set, but D'Alfonso
turned things around in the second set and scored a 9-3 win
of his own to clinch first place.
D'Alfonso earned $2500 for first place, while Dechaine settled
for $1800 in second place prize money.
Tour director Mike Zuglan indicated that there are less than
five spots available in the upcoming Turning Stone Classic XVIII.
Interested players need to contact Mike asap.

Immonen over Moore for
Joss Tour Win |
With Dennis Hatch relinquishing
his stranglehold on the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour, more and more players
are coming out to take their shot at continuing the new tradition
of a different winner every week. This week, it was Mika Immonen
and Stevie Moore setting themselves as the players to beat in
the field of 38 players at Raxx Billiards in West Hempstead.
While the meeting between Immonen and Moore could have easily
been for the hot-seat, the tournament board fated them to meet
up first thing on Sunday morning where Immonen scored a 9-2
win to send Moore to the left side of the board. Immonen followed
that win up with a 9-5 win over Holden Chin for the hot-seat.
Moore bounced back from his loss to Immonen with three wins
on the left side of the board. 9-6 over Jorge Rodriguez, 9-5
over Yesid Garibello and hill-hill over Holden Chin. Those three
wins setup the rematch between Immonen and Moore in the finals.
If two matches between these two competitors was good, then
three would be even better as Moore defeated Immonen 9-4 in
the first set of the double elimination finals. The second set
of the finals was close, but Immonen won it 9-6 for first place
and $1100 in prize money.
The second chance event on Sunday saw Oscar Bonilla go undefeated
with a 3-1 win over Steve Wright for the hot-seat and a 3-2
win over Paul Rozonewski in the finals. Bonilla pocketed $300
for the win.
As usual, players who are interested in playing at the upcoming
Turning Stone Classic XVIII are urged to contact Mike Zuglan
as quickly as possible. This event always fills up and there
is always a waiting list. |

Mike
Davis and Vic Conte win Al Conte Memorial |
Mike Davis |
With Dennis Hatch giving the rest of the Joss
NE 9-Ball Tour a break, the tour has had a different winner
at each event so far this season. The Al Conte Memorial event
at Hippo's House of Billiards in Yorkville, NY on November 5-6
was no different, as Mike Davis cruised through the field undefeated
for the win at his first event this season.
Davis took the hot seat with a 9-4 win over Dave Grau, and then
things got worse for Grau as he dropped a 9-7 match to Shane
Winters on the one loss side.
Winters had lost to Grau in the final four on the winners side
Sunday, but made his way to the finals the long way. It was
still for naught as Davis won the first set of the double elimination
finals 9-6.
Davis pocketed $1100 for the win, with Winters taking home $800
for second.
The second chance event on Sunday had a couple great story lines
going for it. First off was the free entry to both the main
event and the second chance event, courtesy of an anonymous
donor. That entry went to Quentin Keesler, who did not cash
in the main event, but took second in the second chance event.
The winner of the second chance event, was Vic Conte, grandson
of Al Conte; the namesake of the event. Conte went undefeated
and earned $300 for the win.
Tour director Mike Zuglan commented that the Turning Stone Classic
XVIII is looking to be a great event and is filling up fast.
Players are urged to contact Mike quickly or end up on the waiting
list.

Antonakos holds off
Chin for Joss Tour Win |
One of the stories coming out
of the Joss Tour's Turning Stone Classic XVII was the outstanding
play of two tour regulars, Bucky Souvanthong and Greg Antonakos.
Both players were in action over the October 8th and 9th weekend
at Trick Shot Billiards in Clifton Park New York, and both players
once again showed that they can hang with the best of them.
Antonakos was the better of the two on this day, and he took
the hot-seat with a one-sided 9-4 win over tour director Mike
Zuglan.
Zuglan then found himself on the wrong end of another 9-4 score,
this time to Chance Chin. Chin had lost to Antonakos early Saturday,
but had come back with seven straight wins on the one loss side.
Chin took that momentum into the final match with Antonakos
and won the first set of the double elimination finals 9-4.
Antonakos didn't get this far in the event just to roll over
to a challenge from Chin though. He gathered himself in the
second set and scored an equally lopsided 9-3 win over Chin
in the second set of the finals.
Antonakos pocketed $1000 for the win, while Chin took home $750
for second.
The second chance event on Sunday saw Spencer Auigbelle defeat
Kevin Ketz in the finals for first place.
Auigbelle earned $300 for first, while Ketz winning $200 for
second.
Tour newcomer Dennis Scarbro was the winner of the $1200 collectible
Joss Cue.
The Joss NE 9-Ball tour now takes a two week break and will
be back in action in three weeks at Camelot Billiards in Rochester,
NY.
Tour director Mike Zuglan, once again, urges players to sign
up now for the Turning Stone Classic XVIII as space is getting
short in the event. |

Dechaine
wins Waterville Joss Stop |
Mike Dechaine |
With both Dennis Hatch and Bucky Souvanthong
not making the trip to TJ's Classic Billiards in Waterville,
ME for the Joss Tour stop, that left the field wide open for
someone like Mike Dechaine to swoop in and take the tournament
win.
Dechaine didn't just waltz through the field though. He was
tested by both Cody Francis (9-8) and Ivaylo Petrov (9-7) on
Saturday, but Dechaine rose to the occasion both times. Sunday
was a different story altogether though. Dechaine took the hot-seat
with a lopsided 9-1 win over Mike Renshaw. Ashley Nowlan then
finished off Renshaw 9-4 on the one loss side.
The race to 9 double elimination finals of the main event (between
Dechaine and Nowlan) started at the same time as the race to
three second chance tournament finals; and Dechaine won the
main event 9-1 before the second chance event was decided. That
was how dominating Dechaine was on day two of the event.
Dechaine picked up $1000 for first place, while Nowlan settled
for $725 in second place prize money.
When the second chance tournament finished, it was Jeff LaFlamme
(brother of former room owner TJ LaFlamme) who earned the victory
over Mike Bradford for first place.
LaFlamme collected $280, while Bradford took home $180.
The Joss Tour will be at Trick Shot Billiards near Albany, NY
next weekend and tour director Mike Zuglan says that the upcoming
Turning Stone Classic XVIII is filling up fast. Interested players
are urged to contact Zuglan to cement their spot in the tournament.

Hatch over Souvanthong
on Joss Tour |
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour kicked
off their 2011/2012 season over the weekend of September 24th
and 25th with their first ever stop at Premium Billiards in
Syracuse, NY. While it was only the first event of the season,
the battle between the last two season's top points players
is already underway as Dennis Hatch defeated last year's points
winner Bucky Souvanthong for the tournament win.
Bucky's place in the finals was in jeopardy early as he lost
his first match early on Saturday. There were no such early
losses for Hatch as he cruised through days of play relatively
untested. Hatch took the hot-seat on Sunday with a 9-1 win over
Lyn Wechsler.
On the one loss side, Souvanthong was still alive and he then
eliminated Wechsler 9-5 in the semi-finals.
Although Souvanthong is the reigning tour points leader, Hatch
was the favorite going into the finals and he played like it.
The finals was over in one quick set as Hatch won decisively
9-3 for his first win of the season.
Hatch pocketed $1000 for first place, while Souvanthong settled
for $700.
Sunday's second chance event saw Tim Parisian run through the
field undefeated for the win. Parisian defeated Brian Lipes
for the hot-seat and then defeated Dominick Martoccia in the
finals.
Parisian earned $270, while Martoccia took home $170.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at TJ's Classic Billiards in
Waterville, Maine next week for their next event.
Players are urged to get their entries in now for the Turning
Stone Classic XVIII on December 15th - 18th at the Turning Stone
Casino in Verona, Ny. |

Morris
steamrolls Pagulayan in Turning Stone Final |

and runner-up Alex Pagulayan
|
Rodney Morris has won the Joss Tour Turning
Stone Classic XVII and won it in style. The tournament featured
Rodney Morris and Alex Pagulayan in the finals after Alex Pagulayan
defeated Shawn Putnam 9-8 in the semis. That match was one of
the strangest we have ever seen. Putnam went out to a 6-2 lead
and then the wheels just fell off for him. He continued to play
well but lady luck just spit on him at every turn. Twice Pagulayan
should have scratched in the corner only to have the cue ball
defy gravity and stay in the jaws, leaving Putnam nothing to
do.
Pagulayan took advantage of every twist of fate, came back and
won the match on the hill, 9-8.
In the finals Morris jumped out to a 4-1 lead over Pagulayan.
Both men were playing at a very rapid pace and appeared comfortable
at the table with no tension in view. Morris extended that margin
as the score evolved to 7-2 in his favor. Both men were breaking
well and clearing up racks easily.
In rack ten, Morris missed a bank shot on the two ball to bring
Pagulayan to the table with an opportunity. He made the most
of it to bring the score to 7-3. But Pagulayan badly missed
a four ball in the next rack to put Morris back in and soon
the score, with less than 30 minutes of playing time, stood
at 8-3 in favor of Morris. He broke and ran the next to go to
9-3 and Morris was clearly on a mission to win and win quickly.
Morris missed the two ball in the next rack and Pagulayan needed
to start making things happen if he was to have a prayer. But
Alex could not stay at the table. Trading racks would do him
no good and that was what was happening. Soon the score was
at 10-4. And Morris just kept making 9 balls. He made five balls
on one break and soon the score, only one hour into the match,
stood at 12-4 for Morris. Pagulayan clawed out three racks to
come to 12-7 but then scratched on the one ball. Morris controlled
the table and won the match 13-7 to take the title.

Dechaine wins RI Joss Tour Stop |
"The Fireball" Mike
Dechaine scorched his way through a field of fifty five players
at the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop at Snookers Billiards in Providence,
RI over the weekend of June 11-12.
Dechaine took the aptly named hot-seat with a 9-5 win over Nelson
Oliviera and after Oliviera dispatched tour points leader Bucky
Souvanthong in the semi-finals, Dechaine scored another 9-5
win over Oliviera to close out the event undefeated.
Dechaine earned $1200 in prize money, while Oliviera settled
for $900 in second place money.
Sunday's second chance event saw Phil Davis go undefeated including
wins over Dave Wright for the hot-seat and again in the finals.
Davis pocketed $320, while Wright took home $220 for second.
The Joss NE 9-Ball tour now takes a break until the Turning
Stone Classic XVII on September 8-11 at the Turning Stone Casino
in Verona, NY. There are still a handful of open spots left
for this event, but interested players are urged to contact
Mike Zuglan quickly as those spots will fill up. |

Antonakos
Dominates Joss Tour Stop |
Greg Antonakos
|
Fans of the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour are used to
seeing dominating performances at various tour stops, and the
fans in attendance over the weekend of April 16-17th at the
Golden Cue in Albany, NY saw another one ... maybe just not
the player they expected to be doing the domination. This time,
it was Greg Antonakos who was laying down the law and the field
of 49 other players could do nothing by watch.
While Antonakos was tested Sunday afternoon by Dave Pinkston,
that hill-hill match was the last time a player would come anywhere
near beating Greg at this event. Chance Chin fell to Antonakos
9-4 for the hot-seat and then Chin dropped a 9-3 decision to
Dave Grau on the one loss side. This set up the final double
elimination matchup between Grau and Antonakos, but all of the
suspense in this matchup was gone in a hurry as Antonakos crushed
Grau 9-1 in the first set.
Antonakos pocketed $1100 for the weekend, while Grau settled
for $800 in second place prize money.
The second chance tournament on Sunday drew 23 players who took
their shot at the $960 in prize money. This event was won by
Angelo Hilton who went undefeated and scored a hill-hill win
over John Kruythoss in the finals.
Zuglan is still taking entries for the Turning Stone Classic
XVII, which takes place September 8 - 11 at the Turning Stone
Casino in Verona, NY.

The Joss NE
9-Ball Tour drew a field of 39 players to Raxx Pool Room in
West Hempstead, NY over the weekend of April 2 - 3, to compete
for the $3650 available in total prize money.
With both Tour Points leader Bucky Souvanthong and tour terror
Dennis Hatch skipping this event, the field was wide open
for almost anyone to take home first place in this one.
Bobby Blackmore made his case for that prize with a 9-5 win
over Chris Lynch for the hot-seat. Prior to the match with
Blackmore, Lynch had beaten Joey Korsiak 9-8 to send Korsiak
to the left side of the board; and Korsiak was waiting for
him when Lynch made the trip west. In the Lynch/Korsiak rematch,
the score was the same with a different winner as Korsiak
scored a 9-8 win to send Lynch to the rail in third place.
The true double elimination final saw Korsiak win the first
set 9-4, but the second set saw Blackmore come back and win
an "eventful match" 9-5.
The second chance tournament on Sunday saw Oscar Bonilla take
the hot-seat with a 3-0 win over Phil Davis and then fight
off a charge from Yesid Garibello in the finals. Garibello
won the first set of the finals 3-0, but Bonilla recovered
and won the second set 3-1 for the tournament win.
Bob Talbot was the winner of the random drawing for the $1200
custom engraved collectible Joss cue.
The tour will be off next week so that tour director Mike
Zuglan can attend the wedding of his niece, but he will back
in two weeks at the Golden Cue in Albany, NY.
Zuglan is still taking entries for the Turning Stone Classic
XVII, which takes place September 8 - 11 at the Turning Stone
Casino in Verona, NY.

Hatch over Delvillano for Joss Tour
Win |
It had been a couple years since
Seth Delvillano had competed on the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour. Dennis
Hatch took no time at all in explaining the new pecking order
on the tour to Delvillano at the March 26-27 tour stop at Salt
City Billiards in Syracuse, NY.
Both Delvillano and Hatch went undefeated for the weekend until
they met up to compete for the hot-seat on Sunday. Hatch quickly
won that match 9-3.
Delvillano found Dave Grau waiting on the one loss side and
Grau was a little more accommodating to Delvillano as Delvillano
won that match 9-5 to earn another shot at Hatch in the true
double elimination finals.
Delvillano showed that he wasn't all that impressed with Hatch's
new standing as the favorite at any Joss Tour stop he enters.
The two players kept it close early and were tied at 2-2 before
Hatch took control and held a 7-4 lead. Delvillano fought back
and tied the score at 7-7, but dropped the next game as Hatch
got to the hill at 8-7. The next rack would center around a
safety battle and Hatch won that battle as well as the game,
match and tournament 9-7.
Hatch earned $1000, while Delvillano pocketed $700 for second.
The second chance tournament on Sunday saw thirteen players
toss their entries into the pot to compete for the $760 in prize
money.
This event would see Brian Lipes go through the field undefeated
and end the tournament in style with a 3-0 win over Joe Wysocki
in the finals.
Lipes won $300, while Wysocki settled for $200 in prize money.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Raxx Billiards in West Hempstead,
NY next weekend for their next event.
Tour director Mike Zuglan is still taking entries for the Turning
Stone Classic XVII, which takes place September 8 - 11 at the
Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY.

Crevier
wins Joss Tour Debut; Acciavatti almost perfect in second chance
event |
Francis Crevier, Room Owner Tim Berlin
and Karen Corr
|
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour was in action over the
weekend of March 19th and 20th with a field of forty one players
in an event that saw the return of Karen Corr to the Joss Tour,
another appearance by perennial tour front-runner Dennis Hatch,
and a first time appearance by Canadian hotshot Francis Crevier.
As it turned out, the appearance by Quebec's Crevier was the
biggest story of the weekend.
Most followers of the Joss Tour know that Dennis Hatch's entry
in a tournament means that he is immediately the man to beat
for the weekend. Crevier rose to meet that challenge on Saturday
as he handed Hatch his first loss of the weekend 9-5. Hatch's
tournament would end on Sunday with a one-sided 9-3 loss to
WPBA star Karen Corr.
Crevier's eventual opponent for the hot-seat on Sunday was tour
points leader Bucky Souvanthong, who sent Corr to the one loss
side 9-4 earlier Sunday. Crevier would win the match with Souvanthong
9-4.
On the one loss side Souvanthong found that Corr didn't forget
that earlier loss and was waiting for the chance to avenge that
loss. Corr would do that fairly quickly with a 9-3 win.
The first set of the double elimination finals went Corr's way
9-5. Crevier came out strong to start the second set and took
an early 7-2 lead. Corr would get on a run of her own and win
five of the next six games to get back to within one game at
8-7, but Crevier closed out the set with a win in the next rack
and celebrated the 9-7 win for first place in the main event.
The win was worth $1100 for Crevier, while Corr settled for
$800. Souvanthong's third place finish was more than enough
for him to stay comfortably atop the tour points list.
Sunday also saw the second chance tournament take place with
19 players competing for $880 in prize money. In that tournament,
Tom Acciavatti came within one rack of tournament perfection.
Acciavatti won his first three matches with 3-0 scores and it
wasn't until his match that Acciavatti would see an opponent,
Keith Owen, win a game. Acciavatti bounced back from that game
and won the match with Owen 3-1 and that was the last time Acciavatti
would suffer losing a rack as he closed out the tournament with
back to back 3-0 wins over Bruce Carroll for the hot-seat and
again in the finals. All told, Acciavatti held an 18-1 games
score for the event. That was worth $340 in prize money for
Acciavatti.

Dennis Hatch |
Hatch gets serious to take second
set of true double final and win Joss Northeast stop |
One day shy of a year ago, on
February 21, Dennis Hatch won a stop on the Joss Northeast 9-Ball
Tour at Main St. Billiards in Amsterdam, NY. On February 20,
2011, he did it again, at the same location, holding off a double
elimination final challenge by Bucky Souvanthong to finish undefeated.
The $1,500-added event, the third in 2011, with a $3,100 total
purse, drew 48 entrants.
Hatch and Souvanthong squared off three times; the first, among
the winners’ side final four, when Hatch sent Souvanthong
west 9-5. They would meet again in the finals. Joining Hatch
in the battle for the hot seat was Dan Hewitt, winner of the
last Joss NE stop in January, who had just sent Ron Casanzio
to join Souvanthong with a 9-7 victory. Hatch defeated Hewitt
9-3 and waited for what turned out to be Souvanthong’s
return.
Souvanthong’s three-match return to the finals opened
with a match against Spencer Auigbelle, who’d defeated
Tom Acciavatti and tour director Mike Zuglan, both 9-5, to reach
him. Casanzio drew Bruce Nagle, who’d gotten by Kevin
Ketz and Greg Antonakos, both 9-7. It was Souvanthong and Casanzio
advancing to the quarterfinals; Souvanthong with a 9-6 victory
over Auigbelle, Casanzio defeating Nagle 9-3. Souvanthong got
into the semifinals versus Hewitt, after a 9-2 win over Casanzio.
Souvanthong then dropped Hewitt into third place 9-5 and with
a degree of momentum on his side, took the opening set of the
true double elimination final against Hatch 9-2. At that point,
noted Zuglan, Hatch “got serious,” turning the tables
on Souvanthong and winning the deciding match by the same 9-2
score.
A 20-entrant, $500-added, Second Chance Tournament was won by
Marco Kam, who defeated Mark Stewart in a double hill final
match. Bruce Carroll finished third, with Noah Wells in fourth
place. Keith Owen and Gary Poulton finished in a tie for fifth
place.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Zuglan made note of the
fact that he is still accepting entries for the $25,000-added,
season finale, Turning Stone XVII, set for August 11-14. At
this point in time, said Zuglan, the field is already half full.
Interested competitors should contact Zuglan at 518-356-7163.
The next stop on the Joss NE Tour is set for March 19-20 at
Trick Shot Billiards in Clifton Park, NY.

Hewitt
and Phil Davis earn Joss Tour Wins |
While almost
every top action player in the country was in Indiana for
the Derby City Classic, that didn't keep the East Coast players
from making their way to Diamond Eight Billiards in Latham,
NY for the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour Stop. A field of 56 players
came out to compete for the $1500 in added prize money.
Danny Hewitt took the hot-seat in this one with a dominating
9-2 win over Jarrod Clowery. As if that loss wasn't bad enough
for Clowery, he then found himself on the wrong end of a 9-3
match with Bucky Souvanthong. Souvanthong had lost to tour
director Mike Zuglan on Saturday and rode the left side of
the board to the finals.
Souvanthong came out of the gate strong and held an early
3-1 lead before Hewitt won six straight games to take control
at 7-3. Souvanthong won the next three to claw back within
one at 7-6, but that was the closest he would get as Hewitt
won three of the next four games for the 9-7 win and first
place.
The second chance tournament on Sunday drew 19 players and
Redgie Cutler looked unbeatable in this one. Unbeatable only
until the finals though, as Phil Davis scored back to back
3-1 wins to capture first place and $330 in prize money.
Another winner on Sunday was spectator Carmella Runza who
won the $1200 Joss Cue raffle.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Main Street Billiards in
Amsterdam, NY in three weeks for their next tour stop on Feb
19-20.
Mike Zuglan is already accepting entries for Turning Stone
XVII, which will take place August 11-14. Interested players
are urged to call Zuglan at 518-356-7163.

Chau wins
first Joss Tour stop of New Year |
Manny Chau
went undefeated to win the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop at Cue
Nine in Levittown, NY over the weekend of January 8th and
9th.
Chau's journey through the brackets on Sunday included a 9-8
win over tour director Mike Zuglan and then a 9-6 win over
Jeremy Sossei for the hotseat.
Sossei went to the left side of the board where Zuglan had
bounced back from his loss to Chau and was looking to earn
another shot at Chau in the finals. The Sossei/Zuglan match
was short though, as Sossei scored a lopsided 9-3 win.
Sossei knew he would have to defeat Chau twice in the finals
to earn first place, but that was not to happen as Chau duplicated
his earlier 9-6 win over Sossei to finish the final match
in one set.
Chau earned $900 for first, while Sossei settled for $650
in second place prize money.
The next Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop will be January 29-30 at
Diamond Eight Billiards in Latham (Albany), NY.
Mike Zuglan is already accepting entries for Turning Stone
XVII, which will take place August 11-14. Interested players
are urged to call Zuglan at 518-356-7163.

Corey
Deuel Takes Win at Turning Stone XVI |
Mike Zuglan and Turning Stone XLV winner
Corey Deuel |
Corey Deuel has defeated Stevie Moore to claim
the champions spot at the Turning Stone Classic XVI in Verona,
NY.
This week featured some of the most memorable matches of the
year with Johnny Archer coming from behind to narrowly escape
Karen Corr 9-8 and Dennis Hatch and Earl Strickland shooting
at lightning speed in a match that found Hatch emerging the
winner. Many of the weeks matches went double-hill, with three
of these coming in a row on the AZBilliards/Accu-Stats free
live stream.
Our two finalists took a long road on Sunday to reach their
final showdown. The day began with four matches on tap. On the
one-loss side Hunter Lombardo came on strong to defeat a resurgent
Earl Strickland 9-8 while Gabe Owen controlled Tom D'Alfonso
9-3 to progress. On the winner's side Corey Deuel defeated perennial
Turning Stone favorite Dennis Hatch 9-7 and Stevie Moore destroyed
Mike Dechaine 9-1.
This set up the next pair of match-ups on the one-loss side
of the brackets. Here Mike Dechaine took down Hunter Lombardo
9-5 and Dennis Hatch stayed alive by besting Gabe Owen 9-2.
Hatch and Dechaine then paired off and Dechaine never gave Hatch
much air as he dominated the big man to win 9-4. Meanwhile,
the hot seat match between Corey Deuel and Stevie Moore turned
into an endurance-testing 2.5 hour marathon that finally resulted
in Deuel claiming the chair 9-7 after Moore was up 7-6 and running
out when he committed a clothing foul that sent him to his chair
for the rest of the match as Deuel took control and ran the
rest of the racks to grab the win. This meant that Moore had
to return to battle immediately against Dechaine and prevailed
9-5 there to earn both a bit of revenge and his honors into
the finals rematch against Deuel.
Deuel took control early in the final race to 13 games as he
deposited the first three 9 balls. In rack four Stevie played
a safety on the two ball that could have allowed Deuel to continue
his winning ways as he left a narrow window to the 2 ball open
with the 9 ball sitting nearby in the jaws of the corner packet.
But the combination attempt went awry and Moore returned to
the table to lay waste to the rest of the rack to score his
first bead at 3-1.
Our combatants traded blows the next three racks to find the
score at 4-3 in favor of Deuel at the end of the first hour
of play. In rack number eight Deuel played a nifty carom off
of the 1 ball to pocket the 9 in the corner and stretch his
lead a bit to 5-3. Deuel continued to slowly pull out and after
three more racks led Moore 7-4 in our race to 13. At the two-hour
mark the score saw Deuel leading 9 games to 5 and our holiday
crowd was entertaining dreams of sugar plums and shot clocks.
In rack #13 Deuel was on his way through the rack when he scratched
on the 7 ball and left Moore an easy two-ball out to move within
two games at 10-8. Moore then began to claw his way back into
contention and, taking advantage of a couple of missed steps
by Deuel, tied us first at 10 games and then took the lead at
11-10 before Deuel captured another rack to tie us again at
11. Our race to 13 was now a race to 2 games for the win. In
his attempt to gain the hill first Stevie Moore landed to straight
on the 8 ball and had to settle for a long cut on the 9 ball.
He jawed that in the corner, gifting the hill position to Deuel.
Deuel then made a ball on the snap and had a shot on the 1.
He made that and then made a long shot on the 2 ball. THe 3
went into the foot corner and he played three-rail shape on
the 4. The 4 dropped obediently into the side pocket and the
rest of the rack lay out before him in a simple pattern. When
he put the 8 into the corner the cue ball rebounded off of the
rail into the 9 and drove it into the opposite corner for the
win.
Our thanks go out to Mike Zuglan and the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour
for hosting a marvelous week of pool. The sponsors of this event

Bucky Souvanthong |
Souvanthong over Hatch twice for
Joss Tour win |
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop
at Bison Billiards in Williamsville, NY on November 20 - 21
saw one competitor turn in a dominating performance to take
the hot-seat and then win a close match against the same opponent
again in the finals. It just wasn't the player that was expected
in that situation.
As the field of 38 players made their way down to the final
matches on Sunday, things were going as expected by most in
the crowd as Dennis Hatch took advantage of playing in his home
room and was sending opponents to the one loss side in quick
fashion.
The match for the hot-seat was a 9-1 beating, but to the crowds
surprise it was Hatch making the trip to the one loss side and
Bucky Souvanthong laying down the beating this time.
Hatch sent Dean McNaughton home in 3rd place with a 9-6 score
line, and got ready for what he hoped would be two matches in
the true double elimination finals against Souvanthong.
The first match of the finals was a close one with neither player
able to grab more than a one rack lead, but in the end it was
Souvanthong eking out the 9-8 win to send Hatch home in second
place; a position he is not familiar with.
In the Sunday second chance tournament, Willie Oney took the
hotseat from Spencer Auigbelle 3-2 and then watched as Dan Kolacz
eliminated Auigbelle on the one loss side. Kolacz had lost his
first match of the day (to Mike Patrikios) and Auigbelle had
been Kolacz's fifth victim of the day on the one loss side.
Kolacz continued his hot play by defeating Oney 3-0 in the first
set of the double elimination finals. The second set went to
hill-hill before Oney could pull out the win.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will not be back in action until the
Turning Stone Classic XVI on December 16-19 at the Turning Stone
Casino in Verona, Ny. Inquiries regarding this event should
be directed to Mike Zuglan at 518-356-7163.

Immonen
over Dechaine for Ocean State Title |
Jarrod Clowery, Mike Dechaine and Mika
Immonen |
Mika Immonen came out on top of a field of 79
players to win the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's 22nd Annual Ocean State
9-Ball Championship on November 13-14, but it wasn't as easy
as it originally looked like it might be for Immonen.
From the beginning of the event, it was pretty obvious that
both Immonen and Mike Dechaine would be the players to beat
in this event. As the brackets came together, the two would
have to face off in the final eight on the winners side.
Heading up to the match with Dechaine, Immonen had been relatively
untested as we had not allowed an opponent more than 4 games
in a match. The match with Dechaine was no different as Mika
ran away with a 9-3 win.
Immonen just kept cruising through the event and ran over Jarrod
Clowery 9-4 to take the hot-seat and await an opponent in the
finals.
On the one loss side, Dechaine has dusted himself off and dispatched
five straight opponents to earn another shot at Immonen in the
true double elimination finals.
The first set of the finals was a completely different story
than the earlier meeting between these two. This time, Dechaine
was able to stay with Immonen game for game and with the score
tied at 7-7, Dechaine took charge and ran back to back racks
for a 9-7 win.
With both players having losses, one final race to nine was
required to crown a champion. Immonen came out strong in the
final set and raced to a 5-2 lead, but Dechaine wasn't done
yet. Dechaine came back to win five of the next six games to
take the lead at 7-6. Immonen won the next game and the players
found themselves at 7-7 again. This time, it was Immonen who
took control, winning the final two games for the 9-7 win and
first place.
Immonen earned $2500 for the win, while Dechaine consoled himself
with $1700 in prize money.
Next up for the Joss Tour is a $2000 added event at Bison Billiards
in Buffalo, NY next weekend. That will be the last event before
the Turning Stone Classic XVI at the Turning Stone Casino in
Verona, NY on December 16-19. Inquiries regarding the Turning
Stone event should be directed to Mike Zuglan at 518-356-7163.

Winters
wins Al Conte Memorial |
The Joss NE
9-Ball Tour was at Hippos House of Billiards in Yorkville,
NY over the weekend of November 6-7 for the 2nd Annual Al
Conte Memorial. Shane Winters went through the field of 39
players undefeated for the tournament win.
If close matches were what the fans were there for, then they
certainly got their money's worth. Winters took the hot-seat
with a 9-7 win over Dave Grau and the matches just got closer
from there.
Spencer Auigbelle won on the one loss side, hoping for another
shot at Winters after losing in the semi-finals. He would
get that chance with a 9-8 win over Grau, sending Grau to
the bleachers in third place.
It was another close one in the first set of the finals as
Winters was taken to hill-hill by Auigbelle before winning
the case game for the win.
Winters pocketed $1100 for first, while Auigbelle took home
$800.
In the Sunday second chance tournament, Dwight Dixon went
home one game shy of a great comeback. Dixon lost his first
match of the event and came back through the one loss side
with six straight wins, including a 3-1 win over hot-seat
occupant Mike Donnelly in the first set of the finals. Unfortunately
for Dixon, the finals were true double elimination and he
fell short with a 3-2 loss to Donnelly in the second set of
the finals.
Donnelly earned $300 for first, while Dixon won $200 for second.
Next week is the 22nd Annual Ocean State 9-Ball Championship
at Snookers Billiards in Providence, RI. The event will feature
$5000 in added prize money.
Players are still urged to get their entries in for the Turning
Stone Classic XVI on December 16 - 19. The field is limited
to 128 players and only a handful of entries are still open
for this event.

Zvi and Blackmore take Joss Tour
Wins |
Zion Zvi held off Tom D'Alfonso
to win the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop at Raxx Pool Room and Grill
in West Hempstead NY over the weekend of October 30 - 31.
With a total of 32 players competing for the $3500 in prize
money, smart money would have been on Mika Immonen as the favorite
in this event, but Tom D'Alfonso sent tremors through the tournament
chart on Saturday with is 9-7 victory over Immonen. D'Alfonso
rode the momentum of that win all the way to the hot-seat match
on Sunday, but ran out of steam as Zion Zvi scored a lopsided
9-1 win for the hot-seat.
On the one loss side, D'Alfonso found Immonen waiting for a
rematch but that suited D'Alfonso just fine as he burned The
Iceman yet again; this time by the score of 9-5.
D'Alfonso won the first match in the true double elimination
finals 9-4, but Zvi recovered from that loss and defeated D'Alfonso
9-6 in the second set for the tournament win.
Zvi pocketed $1100 for first, while D'Alfonso took home $750
for second.
In the Sunday Second Chance Event, Bobby Blackmore bounced back
from a first round loss to Mike Tanzarella to win six matches
in a row to take first place. Mhet Vergara took the hot-seat
in the event with a win over Brent Boemmels, but Blackmore cruised
through both Boemmels and Vergara in his way to the win.
Blackmore earned $320, while Vergara settled for $200.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Hippo's House of Billiards
in Yorkville, NY next weekend for the 2nd Annual Al Conte Memorial.
Players who are interested in competing in the Turning Stone
Classic XVI need to get their entries in asap. The event is
limited to 128 players and is filling fast.

Hatch
wins in Clifton Park; Ketz begins his own dynasty |
Dennis Hatch |
It only took two events, but the Dennis Hatch
dominance at the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour is back in swing. Hatch
waded through a field of 31 other players on October 9th - 10
at Trick Shot Billiards in Clifton Park, NY for his first win
of the new season.
Hatch took the hot seat with a one sided 9-1 win over Chance
Chin and waited for his opponent in the double elimination finals.
Chin found Jeff Smolen waiting on the one loss side with revenge
on his mind. Smolen had taken the trip to the left side of the
board at the hands of Chin 9-7. Smolen would get his revenge
and an appointment with Hatch in the finals.
Smolen came out strong in the finals and took the first set
9-6. When the second set of the finals began, Smolen discovered
that double dipping Hatch in a Joss Tour event is pretty hard
to do. Hatch came out of the gate with a run of five racks to
take what would prove to be an insurmountable lead. Hatch would
ride that lead to a 9-2 win and yet another Joss NE 9-Ball Tour
win.
In the second chance Sunday event, a new Joss Tour dynasty could
be starting. Kevin Ketz dropped his first match and then won
eight straight matches to win his second event in a row. Ketz
defeated Angelo Hilton 3-0 and 3-1 in the finals.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Raxx Billiards in West Hempstead,
NY on October 30 - 31, for their next event.
Don't forget the Turning Stone Classic XVI taking place December
16th - 19th at The Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. The event
is filling fast.

Dave Fernandez |
Fernandez wins first career Joss
Tour Event |
Dave Fernandez fought off thirty
six other players and a comeback bid from Ivaylo Petrov to win
the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's Maine Event IV at TJ's Classic Billiards
in Waterville, Me.
Fernandez and Petrov's first meeting at this event was for the
hot-seat, where Fernandez won by the narrowest of 9-8 margins.
Petrov had another tough match on the one loss side where he
eliminated Jeff Kennedy 9-7.
The final double elimination match saw Petrov get the first
match with a 9-7 score to force a final race to 9 in order to
determine the final winner.
Fernandez came out strong in the final set and raced to an 8-2
lead, but Petrov refused to quit and win the next five games
to pull back within one at 8-7. A dry break from Petrov in rack
sixteen was the end of the comeback bid as Fernandez ran out
the rack for his first Joss NE 9-Ball Tour win.
Fernandez earned $1100 for first place, while Petrov pocketed
$800 for second.
Sunday saw the $500 added Second Chance Non Pro Event where
seventeen players put up $20 each for another shot at a tournament
payday. This event was won by Joe Dupuis, with Doug Brown taking
second. Dupuis won $300 and Brown settled for $200. Six played
cashed in the second chance event.
TJ's owner, Steve Reynolds, expressed special thanks to John
Lekas from Total Amusements for helping to sponsor the event.
The Joss NE 9-Ball tour will be at Trick Shot Billiards in Clifton
Park, NY next weekend for their next tour stop. And don't forget
the Turning Stone Classic XVI taking place December 16th - 19th
at The Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. The event is filling
fast.
