Shaw Wins Turning
Stone Classic Undefeated |
He looked unstoppable
all week, and in the end he was unstoppable. Jayson
Shaw cruised to his fourth (in 5 attempts) Turning
Stone Classic title at the Turning Stone Classic
XXVI in Verona, NY on August 25th - 28th.
Shaw's path to the hot-seat started with three dominating
wins over Korean Champion Lee Kang, Bucky Souvanthong
and Ivaylo Petrov. After three matches, Shaw's combined
win/loss record was 27 racks won and 4 racks lost.
Next up for Shaw was veteran Ernesto Dominguez.
Dominguez would win six racks before Shaw got to
nine, but Shaw was back to his dominating ways in
his next match as he defeated Danny Hewitt 9-3.
Shaw's winning streak looked to be in danger in
his next match, a true battle with Earl Strickland.
Strickland led the match early, but he seemed to
lose his focus mid-match and Shaw regained control
to cruise to a 9-6 win. The hot-seat match saw Shaw
in full "break and run mode", as he defeated
Karen Corr 9-2.
While the presence of Corr in the late rounds of
a tournament is no real surprise, her bid for the
hot-seat here was her best finish at a Turning Stone
event. Corr had early wins over Sean Morgan, Dawn
Fox, Zion Zvi and Alain Parent. Aside from a hill-hill
match with Morgan, Corr was almost as dominating
as Shaw with her next three matches won with a combined
27-7 scoreline. Just like Shaw in his match with
Strickland, Corr looked to be on her way to the
one loss side in her match with 17 year old Russian
sensation Maksim Dudanets. Dudanets led the match
8-5, before Corr won four straight racks for the
9-8 win. She capped off her comeback with a 9-ball
break at hill-hill to send the Russian youth to
the one loss side. Corr then survived another hill-hill
match, this time with Donny Mills, to earn her place
in the hot-seat match.
After the loss to Shaw in the hot-seat match, she
found Earl Strickland waiting on the one loss side.
In her long career, Corr had never defeated Strickland
in a tournament. She was more than up to the challenge
on this day though, as she fought neck and neck
with an unusually subdued Strickland. Corr and Strickland
went to hill-hill, a place that Corr was becoming
comfortable with at this event. and it was Corr
that navigated a tough rack to earn the win. "I'm
over the moon" Corr said after the match. "Earl
is such a genius at the table, and how many times
are you going to have the chance to play him?"
she continued.
The extended race to 13 final started out close,
as Shaw couldn't seem to distance himself from the
tenacious Corr. She was within one rack at 5-4,
when Shaw found a groove with his break and quickly
took control of the match. After multiple table
runs by Shaw, he had scored a 13-5 win for his fourth
Turning Stone title. When asked after the tournament
as to what he attributed his Turning Stone success
to, Shaw credited the beautiful arena in Verona.
"I just feel really comfortable. There are
a lot of people watching, which is good. I feel
as if I can play good anywhere, but it’s nice
to have a crowd watching. You know what it is like
sometimes. Some places you go you don’t have
many spectators. I like the fact that it’s
open to anyone. I feel really at home here".
Shaw's win earned him $8000 in prize money, while
Corr settled for $5000 for second place.

Release 8/5/2016: Turning Stone Classic XXVI - August
25-28, 2016 |
Mike
Zuglan's Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour, www.joss9balltour.com
and Turning Stone Resort Casino are proud to present
our 2015-2016 Season Finale, The $25,000 Added,
"Turning Stone Classic XXVI 9-Ball Open".
This event will take place in Turning Stone's beautiful
& spacious Event Center which is known worldwide
as one of the best venues ever. There are no bad
seats, and the layout allows you to mingle with
all of your favorite players and friends, giving
you the feeling of being part of the action yourself.
There is an aura of intimacy that seems to surround
you at these events. If you have never been to Turning
Stone, located in Verona NY, you simply don't know
what you are missing. Check them out at www.turningstone.com
For an unprecedented 26th time, we will have a full
field of players with no shortage of past, present
and future Champions. Jayson Shaw, Rodney Morris,
Karen Corr, Jennifer Barretta, Immonen, Dechaine,
Hohmann, & Sossei are just a few competing in
this world class event. Don't think for a minute
that any of these players are a "lock"
to win. Joss Tour regulars like Souvanthong, Casanzio
& Dupuis just might have something to say about
that. Then there are the many others that have a
legitimate chance of making history, and even more
that are very capable of a high finish. So look
for anything to happen when the smoke clears on
Sunday night. I am pleased to also announce that
this event, in addition to being a BCA event, will
be a Level Two, Grade One, Mosconi Cup ranking event
for 2016! The complete player list (subject to change)
can be found below.
There will once again be a "Second Chance"
tournament on Sunday August 28 at 10AM running continuously
and concurrently with the main event until completed.
This is an event for those Non Pro level players
(I will decide) eliminated from the main event.
The event format will be as follows: $60 Entry Fee
- 32 Player Max - same rules as main event - Single
Elimination - Races to 4, best 2 of 3 sets, with
the deciding set a single game sudden death. This
means that if each player wins a race to 4, there
will be a lag for the break and a 1 game playoff
to determine the match winner. Entries will be taken
for this tournament as players are eliminated from
the main event and will be treated as first paid
- first in until the event is full.
The equipment for our world class event will once
again be 16, 9 foot Diamond Pro tables covered with
860 Simonis ("The Cloth Of Champions")
tournament blue cloth. We will be using the new
Aramith Tournament TV Pro Cup balls. Thanks again
to Ivan Lee for providing us with the World's best
cloth and the World's best balls! All of these items
will be for sale in tournament used condition, and
only seriously interested parties are urged to contact
Mike Zuglan immediately at 518-356-7163 for info
and pricing.
Being a spectator at Turning Stone is an experience
you won't find anywhere else. We always offer fans,
Free Admission, Free collectible posters (while
supplies last) and once again Turning Stone will
be giving away a $10 free play to all players and
fans. So you get Free admission, Free posters and
Free bets!! No one else does it like Turning Stone
and the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour! Included in
the Event Center at Turning Stone is a full service
snack bar serving all of our favorite foods and
adult beverages. There will be billiard product
vendors and on site cue repairs available for all
your needs. We will also be raffling off 2 gorgeous,
custom, engraved Joss Cues on Saturday at 8pm and
Sunday immediately prior to the final match and
you Do Not have to be present to win. These cues
have a retail value of $1,700 each and are generously
provided by Danny Janes of Joss Cues Ltd. Thanks
again to Danny, Debbie & Stephen Janes for all
they do for us!! We will also choose a winning ticket
to receive the Pro Cup cue ball used in the final
match autugraphed by the winner.
So come to Turning Stone Resort Casino August 25-28
for a great experience and 4 full days of some of
the best pool you will ever witness. If for some
reason you are unable to make it, there will be
a Free live stream and live scoring expertly provided
by Mike Howerton & Jerry Forsythe( www.azbilliards.com
), Upstate Al Leon, The Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour
and Turning Stone Resort Casino. Match times are
Thursday 4, 6, 8, & 10 pm. Friday 10 am, noon,
2, 4, 6, 8, & 10 pm. Saturday 10 am, noon, 2,

As a reminder, our new 2106-2017 season will begin

Dechaine
undefeated for Joss Tour Stop 15 Win |
L-R Mike Zuglan, Ron Casanzio and
Mike Dechaine |
Mike Dechaine completed another undefeated
run to capture the final regular season tour stop on the
Joss NE 9-Ball's 2015/2016 season at Snookers Pool Lounge
in Providence, RI on June 4th - 5th..
Dechaine cruised through a field of 64 players to capture
the hot-seat with a dominating 9-4 win over Ron Casanzio.
Casanzio wasn't done though, as he defeated Jorge Rodriguez
9-6 to earn another shot at Dechaine in the finals. Dechaine
came out on fire in the finals, and raced to a 7-0 lead.
Then it was Casanzio's turn, as he won four straight racks
to get back to within three at 7-4. A miss in the next
rack was all the opportunity that Dechaine needed as he
cleaned up that rack and the next, for the 9-4 win.
The second chance tournament saw 21 players come back
to do battle on Sunday, with Mike Salerno coming back
from the one loss side for the win. Salerno lost to James
Chemaly 3-1 for the hot-seat, but bounced back with a
3-2 win over Joe Darigis to earn his place in the finals.
Salerno then defeated Chemaly 3-0 and 3-2 for first place.
As always, the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour raffled off a beautiful
$1600 custom engraved Joss Cue at this event, and the
lucky winner this time was local player Bob Young.
The next stop on tour will be the Turning Stone Classic
XXVI on August 25th - 28th at the Turning Stone Casino
in Verona, NY. The 2016 - 2017 season will get underway
at Sharpshooters Billiards in Amsterdam NY on Sept. 17th
- 18th.

Souvanthong over Hewitt
in Joss Tour Finals |
It took him two sets, but
Bucky Souvanthong held off Danny Hewitt to win his first
Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop of the season.
Souvanthong raced through the winner's side on Saturday
with impressive wins over Martin Daigle, Hendrik Drost
and Geoff Montgomery. A sunday morning win over Spencer
Auigbelle set Souvanthong up in the hot-seat match against
Travis Salvetti. Salvetti had ended Saturday with a 9-6
win over Danny Hewitt, and then started Sunday with a
tough 9-7 win over Aaron Greenwood. It would be another
close match for the hot-seat, with Souvanthong winning
9-7.
After the loss to Salvetti, Hewitt eliminated Jamie Garrett
9-2 late on Saturday night. Sunday saw Hewitt defeat Ron
Casanzio 9-5, Auigbelle 9-4, Daigle 9-7 and then Salvetti
9-7.
Hewitt rode his momentum into the double elimination finals,
and scored a 9-4 win over Souvanthong in the first of
two sets. The second set was a mirror of the first set
though, with Souvanthong taking the match 9-4 for first
place.
The second chance event on Sunday saw Jose Mendez defeat
Dave Ricci twice in the finals to take first place. Mendez
lost to Ricci 3-1 for the hot-seat, but came back to score
a 3-1 and then a 3-0 win over Ricci in the finals.
Derrick Beckwith was the lucky winner of the $1700 custom
engraved Joss cue at this event.
Players are reminded that the tournament scheduled on
April 23rd and 24th at Raxx in West Hempstead had been
postponed. The next Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop will be June
4th - 5th at Snookers in Providence, RI.

Claims Third Joss NE Win for 2016 |
Jeremy Sossei |
Back in January, Bucky Souvanthong was
defeated in the second round of the Joss Northeast Tour
Stop #9 and won nine on the loss side to face Jeremy Sossei
in the finals. Though Souvanthong would win the first
set of a double elimination final, Sossei prevailed to
chalk up that win. On the weekend of March 12-13, at the
$1,500-added, Joss NE Tour Stop #12, Sossei and Souvanthong
met again in the finals, and again, Souvanthong came from
deep on the loss side to challenge him (seven loss-side
wins this time). Sossei opted out of the two-set road
to victory this time, defeating Souvanthong in a single
set and chalking up his sixth victory on the 2105-2016
tour, dating back to October.
With Souvanthong once again at work on the loss side,
Sossei advanced to a winners' side semifinal versus Hendrik
Drost. Norm Pomainville squared off against Tom Acciavatti
in the other. Sossei sent Drost packing 9-2, and in the
hot seat match, faced Pomainville, who'd defeated Acciavatti
9-7. Sossei claimed the hot seat 9-7 over Pomainville
and waited, once again, on Souvanthong.
It was Drost who picked up Souvanthong on the loss side.
Souvanthong had chalked up loss-side wins #3 and #4 against
Joe Ziegler (9-3) and Dave Varano (9-4) to reach him.
Acciavatti drew Bruce Carroll, who'd gotten by John Babravitch
9-7, and Angelo Hilton 9-4 (Hilton had upset any plans
Souvanthong may have been entertaining about a re-match
against Dwight Dixon, who'd sent him to the loss side,
by defeating Dixon 9-4). Souvanthong eliminated Drost
9-3 and in the quarterfinals, faced Carroll, who'd downed
Acciavatti 9-4.
Souvanthong defeated Carroll in the quarterfinals 9-7,
and then eliminated Pomainville in the semifinals 9-6.
With visions of the last time in his head, Souvanthong
chalked up for the first set of the double elimination
final. Sossei took control early and often, defeating
Souvanthong 9-2 in the only set necessary.
John Babravich, who finished in the tie for ninth place
in the main event, won the $500-added Second Chance tournament
that drew 14 entrants. He went undefeated, downing Mike
Hurley in the finals. Bob Cunningham finished third, with
James Chemaly finishing fourth. Doug Wells and Frank Delconte
shared the tie for fifth place.
The next stop on the Joss Northeast Tour, scheduled for
April 9-10, will be a $1,500-added ($500-added for Second
Chance), hosted by Salt City Billiards in Syracuse, NY.

L-R Winner Jayson Shaw, owner Steve
Goulding, and runner-up Shaun Wilkie |
Shaw double dips Wilkie
to win 7th Annual New England Hall of Fame 9-Ball Open |
Jayson Shaw has opened
2016 with a string of victories that have already earned
him half of his 2015 earnings. After finishing seventh
at Turning Stone XXV in January, he went on, two weeks
later, to win the Derby City Bigfoot 10-Ball Challenge
(defeating Shane Van Boening in the finals). He finished
second in that multi-tournament 9-Ball Banks event, fourth
in the One Pocket and 45th in 9-Ball. He added $1,750
to his mounting total by winning the 7th Annual Ray Desell
Memorial 9-Ball Tournament, held on the weekend of March
4-6. Also known as the New England Pool & Billiard
Hall of Fame 9-Ball Open, the $2,500-added event, held
under the auspices of the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour,
drew 88 entrants to Snookers in Providence, RI.
The event was preceded, on Friday night, by the annual
New England Hall of Fame awards ceremony, which inducted
eight players into the region's Hall of Fame; Mike Dechaine,
Joe Dupuis, Tommy D'Alfonso, Tommy Seminaro, Bobby Hilton,
Sal Bevilacqua, Larry Gendler, and Becky Ellsworth-Tucker.
Dechaine was inducted into the Hall as a two-time winner
of the tournament, and its defending champion. Dupuis
had won the event in 2014, defeating Dechaine in the finals.
Dechaine and last year's runner-up, Jorge Rodriguez, ended
up meeting in the quarterfinals; Rodriguez, at the time,
had lost his opening match and won nine loss-side matches.
They'd both survived double hill matches in the battles
for 5th/6th to get to those quarterfinals.
It was Shaw and Shaun Wilkie who ended up battling twice
to crown a winner. Shaw had sent Ivaylo Petrov to the
loss side in a winners' side semifinal 9-5, as Wilkie
was sending Jeremy Sossei over 9-6. In what was surely
a surprise to Shaw, Wilkie claimed the hot seat 9-4 and
waited on Shaw's return.
On the loss side, Petrov and Sossei ran into Dechaine
and Rodriguez. Dechaine had picked up a forfeit from Nelson
Oliveira, and defeated Kevin Bauccio 9-4 to reach Petrov.
Rodriguez had chalked up loss-side wins #7 & #8, downing
Ron Casanzio 9-3 and Kyle Pepin 9-1 to draw Sossei. Two
double hill wins sent Dechaine and Rodriguez to the quarterfinals,
where Dechaine prevailed 9-4 for a shot at Shaw.
Another double hill battle ensued, and the defending champion,
Dechaine, finished in third place. Shaw, not pleased to
have had to play that extra match against Dechaine, won
the opening set of the true double elimination final against
Wilkie 9-3. He punctuated his displeasure with a 9-2 second
set win that gave him the title.
A $500-added Second Chance Tournament that drew 17 entrants
saw Justin Muller defeat Joe Darigis in the finals. Mario
Argentino finished third, and Dennis Levesque finished
fourth. Mark Creamer and Bob Begey finished in the tie
for fifth place. A custom, engraved Joss Cue, valued at
$1,700 was raffled off at the event, and won by Joe Duperry.
The next stop on the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour, scheduled for
March 12-13, will be a $1,500-added event, hosted by Trickshot
Billiards and Sports Pub in Clifton Park, NY. Tour director
Mike Zuglan noted that the roster for Turning Stone XXVI,
scheduled for August 25-28, is two-thirds full. Anyone
wishing to sign up should contact Zuglan immediately at
518-356-7163.

Sossei
undefeated for Sharpshooters Joss Tour Win |
L-R Ron Casanzio, Julie Berlin (owner),
Jeremy Sossei and Mike Zuglan |
Jeremy Sossei displayed his top form again,
with yet another Joss NE 9-Ball Tour win at Sharpshooters
Billiards & Sports Pub in Amsterdam, NY on February
20-21.
Sossei took the winners side hot-seat, with a 9-6 win
over Earl Herring.
Herring moved to the one loss side, with intentions to
earn a rematch with Sossei in the finals. Those intentions
would be derailed by Ron Casanzio. Casanzio had lost to
Bucky Souvanthong in his first match of the weekend, but
put together a nine match winning streak (including a
9-4 win over Herring) to earn his place in the finals.
The final match looked to be going to a second set, with
Casanzio holding a 6-3 lead in the first set. Five games
later, the score was tied at 7-7 and Sossei kept on that
hot-seat, winning the next two games for the 9-7 win.
In Sunday's second chance tournament, Bruce Carroll went
undefeated with back to back wins over James Garrett in
the hot-seat match and again in the finals.
Joe Giuliani was the weekend's winner of the $1,700 custom
engraved Joss Cue.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be back in action on March
5th and 6th for the N.E. Pool and Billiard Hall of Fame
9-Ball Open at Snookers in Providence, RI.
Mike Zuglan is already taking sign-ups for the Turning
Stone Classic XXVI on August 25th - 28th. This will be
a Mosconi Cup point event and the field will be limited
to 128 players.

Sossei comes back to win
Syracuse Joss Tour Stop |
The adage is that the two
hardest games to win in a set are the first and last.
Bucky Souvanthong found that out the hard way at the Joss
NE 9-Ball Tour stop at Salt City Billiards in Syracuse,
NY on January 16th - 17th.
Fans in attendance would have been hard pressed to pick
Souvanthong to be challenging for first place in the event,
after a hill-hill loss to Jamie Garrett in his second
match of the day on Saturday, but after nine straight
wins he was ready to challenge for the win.
Bucky would have to get by Jeremy Sossei, which no one
had managed to do over two days. Sossei cruised to the
hot-seat match, where he defeated Ron Casanzio 9-7.
After a 9-8 win over Casanzio in the semi-finals, Souvanthong
took complete control of the first set of the finals with
an 8-3 lead. Then Sossei turned the tide. Sossei came
back from a five rack deficit to win six in a row and
take first place by the narrowest of margins at 9-8.
The second chance tournament on Sunday drew fifteen players,
and it was Dave Ricci beating Marco Kam two out of three
sets for first place. Ricci won the hot-seat match over
Kam 3-2, lost the first set of the finals 3-1 and then
won the second set 3-0 for first place.
Karen Clark was the lucky winner of the $1700 custom engraved
Joss pool cue raffle drawing at this event.
Mike Zuglan is already taking sign-ups for the Turning
Stone Classic XXVI on August 25th - 28th. This will be
a Mosconi Cup point event and the field will be limited
to 128 players.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Sharpshooters Billiards
in Amsterdam NY for their next event on February 20th
- 21st.

The
Iceman Cometh (Again) - Immonen takes Turning Stone XXV |
L-R 3rd Ron Casanzio, 2nd Jeremy
Sossei, winner Jayson Shaw and Tour Owner Mike Zuglan
|
He won the first Turning Stone event,
15 years ago. On the weekend of January 7-10, The Iceman
(Mika Immonen) came back from the semifinals to defeat
hot seat occupant Erik Hjorleifson at Turning Stone XXV.
The $25,000-added event drew 128 entrants to the Turning
Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, NY.
Though his draw through the bracket would allow Immonen
to avoid competitors like (among others) Jayson Shaw (looking
to chalk up his fourth straight Turning Stone title),
Rodney Morris (looking for his second, overall), Johnny
Archer (looking for his seventh overall title) and Mike
Dechaine (looking for his second) Immonen did have to
get by Brandon Shuff, and in a winners' side semifinal,
Shaun Wilkie. Hjorleifson, in the meantime, was having
his own problems (all solved), including our Player of
the Year, Pin-Yi Ko, Mike Davis, Mario Morra (double hill),
and in the other winners' side semifinal, Oscar Dominguez,
who (looking for his second Turning Stone title since
Turning Stone XIII), along the way, had sent (among others)
Jeremy Sossei, Jennifer Baretta, Shaw, and Hunter Lombardo
to the loss side.
Immonen sent Wilkie to the loss side 9-4, and in the hot
seat match, faced Hjorleifson, who'd sent Dominguez over
by the same score. Hjorleifson took the first of two against
Immonen, also 9-4, and sat in the hot seat, awaiting Immonen's
return.
On the loss side, Wilkie ran into Morris, fresh off a
sixth, loss-side win that had included the elimination
of Jennifer Baretta, Archer, and Hunter Lombardo. Dominguez
drew Yu Hsuan Cheng, who'd just finished eliminating Dennis
Hatch 9-7 and Shaw, 9-3. Dominguez ended Cheng's weekend,
as Morris ended Wilkie's. Dominguez then defeated Morris
9-2 in the quarterfinals, before his own short-lived visit
to the loss side came to a 9-5 end in the semifinals versus
Immonen.
Immonen, having earned his shot at the re-match versus
Hjorleifson, took full advantage. He completed his search
for a second Turning Stone title since he'd won the first
one by defeating Hjorleifson handily 13-2.

Press Release
12/27/2015: Turning Stone Classic XXV - January 7-10,
2016 |
Mike Zuglan's
Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour and Turning Stone Casino Resort
are proud to present The $25,000 Added "Turning Stone
Classic XXV 9-Ball Open". Turning Stone has once
again most generously invited us to compete in their beautiful
and spacious Event Center which is one of the best arenas
in the world. There is not a bad seat in the house and
multiple matches can be viewed comfortably from everywhere.
The intimate layout in this world class arena allows you
to mingle with your favorite players and lets you feel
like you are a part of the action as well. Turning Stone
Resort & Casino is a full service resort with everything
needed for a relaxing, fun filled and enjoyable experience.
Check them out at www.turningstone.com
Here is a little history of our great events at Turning
Stone. To date we have held, in order of added money,
one $15,000 added 96 player event, two $20,400 added 32
player Invitationals, twenty-one $25,000 added 128 player
and one $50,000 added 128 player events. All fields were
filled to capacity with a waiting list. Now for the 25th
time, there will again be a full roster of 128 players
competing for the title. As always, the field includes
a wide range of talent from our regular tour players to
some of the best in the game. The complete current list
(subject to change) is now available on our site www.joss9balltour.com
. There you will also find our current 2015-2016 season
schedule, results and all other pertinent tour information.
Our next regular season event will be stop # 9 at Salt
City Billiards in Syracuse NY immediately following XXV
on January 16-17, 2016, and our regular season will continue
on from there until June. Our $25,000 added "Turning
Stone Classic XXVI 9-Ball Open", Season Finale, will
be August 25-28, 2016. I will begin taking entries for
that event at this event in January and not before. FYI,
there is every reason to believe that the August 2016
Season Finale will fill to capacity many month prior to
the event, so seriously interested players need to pay
their entry fee to avoid most definitely being shut out.
Once again at Turning Stone there will be a "second
chance" tournament on Sunday January 10th at 10AM.
This is an event for those Non Pro level players (I will
decide) eliminated from the main event. The event format
will be as follows: $60 Entry Fee - 32 Player Max - same
rules as main event - Single Elimination - Races to 4,
best 2 of 3 sets, with the deciding set being a single
game sudden death. This means that if each player wins
a race to 4, there will be a lag for the break and a 1
game playoff to determine the match winner. Entries will
be taken for this tournament as players are eliminated
from the main event and will be treated as first paid
- first in until the event is full.
The equipment for our world class event will once again
be 16 Diamond Pro tables covered with 860 Simonis ("The
Cloth Of Champions") tournament blue cloth. We will
again be using the new Aramith Tournament balls with Pro
Cup cue balls. And you can thank Aramith and specifically
Ivan Lee for stepping in to most generously provide us
with the best balls on the planet! All items are for sale
in tournament used condition, and only seriously interested
parties are urged to contact Mike Zuglan immediately at
518-356-7163 for info and pricing.
As always, fans coming to Turning Stone for our event
will be treated to Free Admission, Free collectible posters,
which have all the previous winners listed (while supplies
last & can be viewed above
and on Face Book at Mike Zuglan's Joss Northeast 9-Ball
Tour page), $10 casino Free Plays to players and fans,
and some of the best pool you will ever see. All of this
is brought to you courtesy of Turning Stone Resort &
Casino and the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour!
Included in the Event Center at Turning Stone is a full
service snack bar serving all of our favorite foods and
adult beverages. There will be billiard product vendors
and on site cue repairs available for all your needs.
CJ and Peggi Wilkinson of www.baltimorecitycues.com will
be here with their extensive cue, case and supplies display,
Dan Dishaw, www.dishawcues.com will be on hand with his
cues and expert on site cue repairs, and Ira Lee of www.molinaribilliards.com
with his line of Molinari products. There is still time
and room for new vendor or two at a mere fraction of what
you would pay elsewhere. Interested parties should contact
me at 518-356-7163 immediately.
Dan, Debbie and Stephen Janes of Joss Cues, have once
again upped the ante and provided us with two gorgeous,
custom engraved cues for raffle. The cues are valued at
$1,700 each and will be raffled off on Saturday just before
the 8 PM matches, and the second will go on Sunday immediately
prior to the final match at approximately 7 PM. These
beautiful cues can be viewed here: https://josscues.com/cues/custom/joss-custom-26/
In addition to the cues, I will once again give away the
Aramith Pro Cup cue ball used in the final match, autographed
by the winner, to some lucky fan by combining all of the
Saturday and Sunday raffle tickets and picking the winner
from them.
So, we invite everyone to come to Turning Stone Resort
& Casino January 7-10, 2016 for a great experience
and 4 full days of some of the best pool you will ever
witness. If for some reason you are unable to make it,
there will be a free live stream expertly provided by
Alan Leon, aka Upstate Al, www.azbilliards.com
(Mike Howerton & Jerry Forsythe), The Joss Northeast
9-Ball Tour and Turning Stone Resort & Casino. Unfortunately
because Mike and Jerry are unable to make it this time,
there will be no live scoring this time. Match times are
as follows: Thursday at 4,6,8 & 10pm. Friday at 10am,
noon, 2,4,6,8 & 10pm. Saturday at 10am, noon, 2,4,6,8
& 10pm. Sunday at 11am, 1,3,5 & the final match
at 7pm. The second chance tournament on Sunday will begin
at 10am and run continuously until completed.
I would like to ask all of you to please publicize our
event through social media etc. so more people may be
informed about this great and free event. And, as always,
I remind all of you how important it is to please frequent
your local billiard parlors and promote and utilize the
fine products of our most generous sponsors listed below.
They are the backbone of our sport!
I hope to see all of you at Turning Stone

L-R Dave Grau, Room Operator Andrea
Duvall and Jeremy Sossei |
Jeremy Sossei
wins Al Conte Memorial |
He may have taken the long
route, but Jeremy Sossei still ended up in the winner's
circle at the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's Al Conte Memorial
at Hippo's House of Billiards in Utica NY on December
5th and 6th.
Sossei took a much earlier trip to the one loss side than
anyone expected, after losing a hill-hill match to Lyn
Wechsler in the second round on Saturday. Sossei made
himself comfortable on the left side of the board and
started the long trek to the finals.
Back on the winner's side, Dave Grau and Bucky Souvanthong
both remained unbeaten and met up for the hot-seat on
Sunday. That match would go to Grau 9-7.
Sossei was still mowing them down on the left side of
the board, with six straight wins before facing Souvanthong
in the semi-finals. Bucky would quickly become win #7
for Sossei, with a 9-5 scoreline.
The finals would go both sets with Sossei easily winning
the first set 9-1, and then winning a tougher second set
9-4 for nine straight wins and first place.
Sunday's second chance tournament saw Kevin Ketz taken
to the second set of the finals before notching another
Joss second chance tournament. It was smooth sailing for
the hot-seat, as Ketz defeated Doug Wells 3-0. Wells then
dropped another 3-0 match to Dick Cappotto in the semi-finals.
The first set of the finals went to Cappotto 3-2, but
Ketz came back to take the second set by the same 3-2
scoreline.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour now takes a break until the Turning
Stone Classic XXV 9-Ball Open on January 7th - 10th.

Shaw wins Ocean State Title |
L-R 3rd Ron Casanzio, 2nd Jeremy
Sossei, winner Jayson Shaw and Tour Owner Mike Zuglan
|
Jayson Shaw added another title to his
already impressive resume with a hard earned undefeated
run at the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's 27th Annual Ocean State
9-Ball Championship at Snookers in Providence, RI on November
21st - 22nd.
While Shaw went through the field undefeated, it was no
cake-walk. In the final four on the winner's side, Shaw
had to get by three time defending champion Mike Dechaine.
After that win, Shaw sent Ron Casanzio to the left side
9-5 for the hot-seat.
Prior to the loss to Shaw, Casanzio had sent another former
winner, Jeremy Sossei, to the one loss side. Sossei was
waiting on the one loss side, and he duplicated Shaw's
9-5 win over Casanzio to send Casanzio home in third place.
The final match looked to be an easy one for Shaw, as
he raced to the hill at 8-2 in the first set of the double
elimination finals. Then Sossei won a game. And then another.
And then another. Before Shaw knew what hit him, Sossei
had won six straight games to tie the score at 8-8 with
Sossei breaking. Sossei made a ball on the break, but
couldn't get out in the final rack. A short safety battle
ensued, which looked to be won by Sossei, but he missed
a tricky 5-ball and Shaw quickly ran out the last five
balls for the 9-8 win.
Shaw earned $2700 for the win, while Sossei settled for
$2000 in second place prize money.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Hippos House of Billiards
in Utica, NY on December 5th - 6th for their next stop,
The Al Conte Memorial. This event was originally scheduled
for November 7th - 8th, but was rescheduled for the first
weekend in December.

Dechaine and Desjardins
Undefeated at Union Station Joss Stop |
Mike Dechaine turned in
an undefeated run through a field of 52 players to win
the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's stop at Union Station Billiards
(formerly Spot Shot Billiards) in Portland, Me on November
14th and 15th.
Dechaine cruised relatively unchallenge through the winner's
side, and took the hot-seat with a 9-4 win over Canadian
Martin Daigle. Daigle found a red-hot Nelson Oliveira
waiting for him on the one loss side. Oliveira had lost
his 2nd match of the event, and put together a seven match
winning streak to get to the semi-final match. That streak
would come to an end though, as Daigle scored a 9-8 win
to send Oliveira home in 3rd place.
The final re-match between Dechaine and Daigle would go
one set, as Dechaine scored another 9-4 win to capture
first place.
Twenty one players came back to Union Station on Sunday,
to compete in the $500 added second chance tournament.
This event saw Canadian Mark Desjardins score his first
tour win, with an undefeated run. He defeated Bruce Nagel
for the hot-seat and then defeated Ashley Nowlin in the
finals.
Next week, the Joss NE 9-Ball tour returns to Snookers
in Providence, RI for the 28th Ocean State 9-Ball Championship.
Players are also reminded that the Al Conte Memorial,
at Hippos House of Billiards in Utica, NY, has been rescheduled
to December 5th and 6th.
Any players interested in competing in the Turning Stone
Classic XXV, on January 7th - 10th, are urged to get their
entries in now. There are very few spots remaining.

Oliveira Captures Joss Event At Raxx |
Holden Chin, Nelson Oliveira and
Mike Zuglan |
Nelson Oliveira of New Bedford Ma. went
undefeated to win stop # 5 of the Joss Northeast 9-Ball
Tour at Raxx Pool Room Sports Bar & Grill in West
Hempstead NY. Nelson was never really threatened throughout
the entire event having bested Hendrik Drost 9-3 for the
hot seat and dusting off Raxx owner Holden Chin 9-1 in
the final match. Holden Chin lost an early round to Hendrik
Drost 9-8 but after 4 wins on the one loss side, got his
revenge by a score of 9-3 to reach the finals. Once there
though, it was all Nelson Oliveira who was chalking up
his first Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour since a couple of
years ago. Oliveira picked a cool $1,000 for the win,
Holden Chin $650 for 2nd, Hendrik Drost $400 for 3rd and
Kevin Ketz $150 for 4th.
Congratulations also to Kevin Ketz who was the winner
(his second this season) of Raxx $1,700 custom, engraved
Joss Cue raffle.
Our $25,000 Added Turning Stone Classic XXV 9-Ball Open

Hewitt and Ketz
win Syracuse Joss Tour Stop |
Danny Hewitt and Kevin
Ketz were the big winners when the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour
found itself at Premium Billiards in Syracuse, NY on the
weekend of October 17th - 18th.
Hewitt took the main event with an undefeated run through
a field of 48 players. His place in the hot-seat was no
gimme though, as he narrowly defeated Marco Kam 9-8 in
that match. On the one loss side, the story was Bucky
Souvanthong. After losing his second match, Souvanthong
had been mowing down opponents on the one loss side. Souvanthong
eliminated Kam 9-5 for his spot in the finals. It was
Souvanthong's second appearance in the finals in as many
weeks, and he took early command with a 3-0 lead in the
first set. Souvanthing led the match 5-2, when Hewitt
took control and won seven straight games for the 9-5
win and first place. In addition to the $1000 first place
prize, Hewitt was also the lucky raffle winner of the
$1,700 custom engraved Joss cue for this stop.
Sunday's second chance tournament saw Keviin Ketz return
to the winner's circle in a field of 19 players. Ketz
defeated Jamie Garrett 3-0 for the hot-seat, and then
defeated Dave Mils 3-1 in the finals.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Raxx Pool Room, Sports
Bar and Grill this weekend (October 24th - 25th), for
another $1500/$500 added event. With most of the big guns
on the east coast in Virginia for the US Open, the timing
is perfect for a newcomer to earn a win on the tour.
Tour director Mike Zuglan said that the upcoming Turning
Stone Classic XXV is over 2/3 full, and players are urged
to contact him at 518-356-7163 to get their entry fees
in.

Sossei
repeats and Brucato Earns First Joss Tour wins at Sharpshooters |
Jeremy Sossei, Sharpshooters Owner
Julie Berlin and Bucky Souvanthong |
Jeremy Sossei turned in his second straight
Joss NE 9-Ball Tour victory on October 10th - 11th at
Sharpshooters Billiards and Sports Pub in Amsterdam, NY.
It was Sossei's second hot-seat in a row, as he once again
took the winner's side with a dominating performance.
This week, it was Bucky Souvanthong who had no answer
for Sossei in a 9-4 match. Souvanthong would be back in
the finals though, after he defeated Ron Casanzio in the
semi-final match. The final match went one set with Sossei
reaching the hill first with a comfortable 8-4 lead. Souvanthong
fought back and won two games to cut Sossei's lead in
half at 8-6, but that would be as close as he would get,
as Sossei won the match 9-6 for his second consecutive
tour stop win. It was also his third straight appearance
in the finals, including his second place finish two weeks
ago at TJ's Classic Billiards in Waterville, Maine.
Although Sossei is a familar face in the winner's circle,
Nick Brucato is not as familar in that position. He earned
his first Joss Tour second chance win on Sunday, with
a come-from-behind win over Lyn Wechsler in the finals.
Once again, the $1700 custom engraved Joss Cue raffle
was won by a player in the event. This time it was Kevin
Ketz taking home this beautiful cue.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Premium Billiards next
week, for their next stop, another $1500/$500 added event.
Tour director Mike Zuglan indicated that the upcoming
Turning Stone Classic XXV is now 2/3 full. Players are
urged to contact Zuglan at 518-356-7163 to get their entry

Notch Joss Tour Wins |
Jeremy Sossei improved
on his second place finish last week, and turned in an
undefeated run through a field of 48 players to win the
Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's second stop of the 2015/2016 season
Salt City Billiards in Syracuse, NY.
Sossei cruised through the winners side and took the hot-seat
with a 9-2 win over Ed Saur. Saur would end up settling
for second place, after a hill-hill loss to Bruce Nagle
in the semi-final match. Nagle had lost to Sossei earlier
in the day on Sunday, and was looking good in his bid
to revenge in the finals. Nagle stayed close to Sossei
until the 6-6 mark, when Sossei took control and rattled
off three straight racks for the 9-6 win.
The second chance tournament on Sunday saw Joe Wysocki
hold off Kevin Ketz in the finals. Wysocki had the hot-seat,
after a 3-2 win over Jamie Garrett. Garrett would then
drop another 3-2 match; this time to Ketz. Ketz took the
first set of the finals 3-1, but Wysocki righted his ship
and scored a 3-0 win in the second set, for first place.
The winner of this stop's $1700 custom engraved Joss cue
was Jamie Garrett.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Sharpshooters in Amsterdam,
NY next week for their next event; another $1500/$500
added event.
Tour director Mike Zuglan urged all players interested
in competing in January's Turning Stone Classic XXV to
reach him as soon as possible. The field is half full
and will definitely fill up for January. Mike can be reached

Mike
Dechaine / Ross Webster kick off new Joss Tour Season
with Win |
Jeremy Sossei, Mike Zuglan and Mike
Dechaine |
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour kicked off their
19th season the same way they have kicked off their last
four seasons; with a "Maine Event" stop at TJ's
Classic Billiards in Waterville, Maine. And just like
the last four years, Mike Dechaine was crowned the event
winner.
This year's event, "The Maine Event IX", saw
a field of fifty seven players in the main event. Dechaine
and last season's point winner Jeremy Sossei were the
players to beat all weekend as they navigated their halves
of the bracket to meet up for the hot-seat. That match
would be close, but would eventually go to Dechaine 9-7.
The two players would find themselves meeting again in
the finals, after Sossei eliminated Kyle Pepin 9-4 in
the semi-final match.
The final match would go one set. Sossei took the hill
first at 8-7, but Dechaine quickly joined him at 8-8 and
then won the case game for the hill-hill win.
The second chance tournament, on Sunday, drew twenty six
players back to compete for their share of over $1000
in prize money. Ross Webster would lose the hot-seat to
Dan Couture 3-1, but would come back to defeat Jamie Garrett
in the semi-finals, and then double dip Couture 3-0 and
3-1 in the finals.
In addition to his seventh place finish, Colin Maloney
was also the lucky winner of the $1700 Joss Custom Cue.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Salt City Billiards
next weekend for another $1500/$500 added weekend.
January's Turning Stone Classic XXV is filling fast. This
event will be the first Mosconi Cup points event of 2016
and players looking to get an early jump on those Mosconi
Cup points are urged to contact Mike Zuglan as soon as
possible at 518-356-7163 to get their name on the players
list.
