Oscar Dominguez wins Turning Stone Classic
XIII |
It didn't take long for Oscar
Dominguez to snare his first major 9-ball title. He came close
earlier this year in Valley Forge (3rd place) and he played
even stronger this weekend at the Turning Stone Classic XIII
to capture first place.
Dominguez started the day with an appointment with Shane Van
Boening on the streaming table. A match with arguably the hottest
player on the US circuit for the last 3 years could be a lot
to fade for a young player looking for their first major title.
But Dominguez took it in stride and came away with a 9-5 win.
From there, Dominguez's game just seemed to get stronger and
he bulldozed Zion Zvi 9-2 to take the hot-seat.
This event was a coming out party of sorts for Zvi. A relative
unknown to the fans outside of the East Coast, Zvi moved to
the states from Israel three months ago but has been playing
the game for over four years. If fans did not know who he was
prior to this event, they sure know who he is now. Zvi crushed
Corey Deuel 9-4 to earn another shot at Dominguez in the finals.
Zvi played some great pool all week and add some bad rolls for
Deuel in their match and you had a sure fire recipe for Zvi
moving on.
As strong as Zvi had been playing, Dominguez gave him no chance
to show any of his previously displayed firepower. Dominguez
had gone to his Dad Ernesto before the finals and asked for
any advice he could offer. Daddy Dominguez told his son to stay
within the game and just play each ball "one at a time".
Junior did just that as he played each ball as if it was the
most important shot of the match. Oscar's safeties were perfect
all match, and his shotmaking and position play were just as
strong.
Oscar led 4-0 before Zvi got on the board. And Oscar kept the
pressure on. Zvi would earn a game here and there, but Dominguez
never looked like this match was in dispute as he cruised to
a 13-5 win.
Dominguez earned $8000 for first place, while Zvi settled for
$5000 in second place prize money.

Everyone,
The complete 2009-2010 Joss Northeast
9-Ball Tour season schedule has been released. It consists
of 18 billiard parlor events and two $25,000 added Turning Stone
Casino events. I personally would like to thank ALL of our hosts
for the opportunity to be able to compete at their great facilities.
This will be our 13th season of continuous operation. The Joss
Northeast 9-Ball Tour has hosted hundreds of tournaments including
20 Major industry events. This season we will only add to those
already impressive totals. Our generous sponsors continue to
donate their quality products even in this toughest of times.
A list of our "cream of the crop" sponsors with links
to their sites can be found under the sponsors tab. Our title
sponsor, Dan Janes of Joss Cues LTD, continues to impress everyone
with the fine custom, engraved, collectible cues he donates
to each stop on the tour. So far, I estimate that Dan has donated
approximately 300 cues since the tour began. That is approximately
$300,000 worth of merchandise. Thanks Dan and Thank You to ALL
of our loyal and generous sponsors!
This season, I am trying something new. It seems that I have
accumulated quite a few custom sponsorship cues. These cues
are from Barry Cameron Custom Cues, Mike Webb Custom Cues and
Zinzola Custom Cues. I have decided to do the following: I have
given host room owners the opportunity to purchase one of these
fine cues from me, with the money to be used to give away a
paid entry and 3 nights hotel accommodation at the next Turning
Stone event following their event. Only players that finish
out of the money at that event and have never won a Joss event
will be eligible. This prize is not transferable and must be
used by the winner or it will be given to an alternate player.
There are already four of these events scheduled for this season.
They are Stop #1 at TJ's, #6 at Raxx, #15 at Raxx & #18
at Snookers. I still have more cues for sale, to interested
parties, to add more of these events. All of the proceeds will
go toward adding more of these prize packages. Please spread
the word or contact me if interested in purchasing one of these
fine cues.
Once again this season, Turning Stone Casino has signed on for
two more $25,000 events. Please note that the usual February
event has been rescheduled for December 17-20 2009!! I will
begin taking entries for that event at our August 20-23 2009
season finale. Anyone wishing to enter must contact ME or see
me in person to PAY their entry fee. These events continue to
fill faster and faster so PLEASE do not wait or you will be
shut out.
I would appreciate it very much if all of you would pass this
message on to friends and fans. I will gladly add them to my
email and snail mail list. If you would like to be added (or
removed) please contact me with complete address, phone numbers
and email. You will receive all of my updates and tour news.
contact me at mzjosstour@aol.com or 518-356-7163.
Again, Thank You to all of our host rooms, sponsors, Turning
Stone Casino, Dan Janes and fans for all of your continued support.
Mike Zuglan

Joe Tucker |
Joe Tucker wins Joss Tour Stop |
With Dennis Hatch in Las Vegas
getting ready for his challenge match with Darren Appleton,
the players of the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour took comfort in knowing
that a different player would be making their run to the winners
circle this week at Snookers Cafe and Billiards in Providence,
RI. A field of forty seven players including Mike Zuglan, Joe
Tucker, Jason Michas, Ray McNamara, Tom McGonagle, Matt Tetreault,
Tim D'Alfonso and Dave Grau all threw their hat in the ring
looking for the lion's share of the $5760 in prize money.
The winners side came down to Tom McGonagle vs Matt Tetreault
for the hot-seat. McGonagle had just sent Joe Tucker to the
left side of the board by the score of 9-8 and Tetreault sent
Damon Sobers left by the same 9-8 score. With the two hill-hill
matches prior to the hot seat match, fans might have expected
a close match between McGonagle and Tetreault. So, of course,
Tetreault beat McGonagle 9-0 to take the hot-seat.
On the one loss side, Tucker came back with wins over Dave Grau
and Tom D'Alfonso; and then defeated McGonagle 9-5 to earn the
shot at Tetreault in the finals.
The final match was true double elimination, so Tucker would
have to beat Tetreault twice to earn first place. Tucker won
the first match 9-8, and then won the second by a slightly larger
margin at 9-7.
Tucker earned $1460 for first place, and Tetreault settled for
$1000 in prize money. After the tournament, both players offered
their thanks to both Darren Appleton and The Action Report for
putting together the challenge match with Dennis Hatch.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's regular season is now complete, and
they will not be in action again until August 20-23 for the
Turning Stone Classic XIII at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona,
NY. This $25000 added tournament is filling fast and players
need to get their entry fees into Zuglan sooner than later if
they still want to play in the event.

Hatch Stays
in the Driver's Seat at Comet Billiards |
Dennis Hatch |
Turns out that the lights of the Accu-Stats
streaming table at Comet Billiards were no distraction to Dennis
Hatch and his goal of regaining dominance on the Joss NE 9-Ball
Tour.
Hatch was just one of the forty one players in attendance on
April 25th and 26th. Hatch was joined by such notables as Al
Lapena, Shaun Wilkie, Joey Korsiak, Tom McGonagle, Matt Tetreault,
Liz Ford and Mike Fingers.
Hatch was up to his old tricks, and was cruising through the
brackets with only one scare, courtesy of Shaun Wilkie. That
match went 9-7, but that was the closest Hatch would allow an
opponent over two days of play. Hatch took the hot-seat with
a 9-4 win over Tom McGonagle and awaited his opponent in the
finals.
McGonagle, went to the left side of the board and found Al Lapena
waiting. Lapena had lost a Saturday match to Holden Chin and
had been on a tear ever since then. Lapena won five matches
on the left side of the board, including eliminations of Joey
Korsiak and Shaun Wilkie. With all Lapena's built up momentum,
he crushed McGonagle 9-1 in the semi-final match and booked
his place in the finals against The Hatchetman.
With Lapena's hot play leading up the finals, fans were expecting
a real shootout. What they got instead was an ambush as Hatch
took commands and cruised to a 9-3 win for yet another Joss
NE 9-Ball Tour win.
Hatch earned $1400 for first, with Lapena settling for $980
in second place prize money.
The Joss tour is at Snookers in Providence, RI next week for
their next stop and will be at Turning Stone Casino on August
20th - 23rd for the Turning Stone Classic XIII. Interested players
are urged to contact Mike Zuglan as soon as possible to sign
up for the Turning Stone event.

Dennis Hatch |
Another Notch in the "Hatch"et |
Dennis Hatch simply cruised into
the finals at the Joss Tour event in Albany, New York at the
Golden Cue Billiard Lounge. No one was able to even get close
enough for Hatch to break a sweat until the very last match
of the tournament. Even that one looked like it would be a cakewalk
but Matt Tetreault had enough game left in him to make it more
than just interesting. After all, Tetreault had a score to settle.
Hatch had man-handled him in the hot seat match 9-2 and Tetreault
did not want that to be the score by which he would be remembered.
Tetreault had done very well for himself getting to the hot
seat match undefeated. He had beaten TD Mike Zuglan on the hill
in the very first round and then had gone unmarked through the
rest of his opponents until Hatch barbecued him in the hot seat
showdown.
So Tetreault took a brief run out to the far left side of the
brackets and sent Ron Casanzio home in third place 9-3. Then
it was back to work against Hatch. At first it looked really
glum for Tetreault as Hatch powered out to a 7-4 lead in their
race to 9 match. But then Matt Tetreault went to work and started
rolling in the balls. He hung in there until the score was knotted
at 8 apiece and the crowd was treated to a double-hill match
that ended, well, strangely.
Hatch broke the rack and was running out. It looked like he
had everything under control and the title in his bag. But when
he made the 8 ball he got way too close to his work and the
cue ball wound up frozen to the 9 ball. Hatch tried to kick
the 9 in but that effort only produced a long, tough shot on
the 9 for Tetreault to attempt. That try failed and Hatch came
to the table with a very long cut, thin on the 9. He sliced
it in like it was on auto-pilot and took home the bacon, again.
The next Joss Tour event will be at Comet Billiards on April
25th-26th. This event will be streamed online by Accu-Stats.com

Immonnen Takes
Joss Win |
Mika Immonen |
Mika Immonen cruised untouched through the Joss
Tour field at Raxx Billiards in West Hempstead, NY to prove
that Dennis Hatch is not the only man capable of winning a Joss
event. Indeed, Mr. Hatch had to settle for fourth place in this
event as Dave Grau beat him twice, once to send him to the losers
side and then again to end his tournament in fourth place. Tournament
Director Mike Zuglan quipped: "We now know that two people
can beat Dennis Hatch, Ralf Souquet and Dave Grau".
Grau, as well as he was playing, still could not take down the
iceman. In the finals Mika eased into the win, 9-3. This was
the exact same score that Grau used in his previous match to
retire Joey Korsiak into a third place finish.

Chris Orme scores
undefeated Joss Tour Win |
The players
on the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour got to take a small break from
the Dennis Hatch winning streak as he was a no-show at Classic
Billiards in Rochester NY on March 28th-29th.
Even without Hatch, there was more than enough firepower in
the field of thirty nine players.
The winners side came down to Chris Orme and young gun John
Morra on Sunday. This match went to Orme by the score of 9-7.
On the one loss side, Chance Chin was fighting his way through
the brackets after a second round loss to Orme.
On the one-loss side, Chin won seven straight matches including
a final four matches over Mike Zuglan 9-8, Bucky Souvanthong
9-8, Dave Grau 9-7 and Morra 9-8.
This left Chin and Orme fighting for the win. Chin rode his
momentum to an early lead 5-2, but Orme came back to tie the
match at 7-7. From there, Orme won the last two racks for
the 9-7 win.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Raxx Pool Room & Grill
in W. Hempstead, NY next weekend for their next event.
Mike Zuglan is already taking entries for Turning Stone Classic
XIII on August 20 - 23. This event always fills up, so players
are urged to call Mike at (518) 356-7163.

Hatch Scores Win Number Seven on Joss Tour
|
As the old saying goes, "If
you want something done right, you have to do it yourself".
For weeks now, players on the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour have been
wondering when someone will keep Dennis Hatch from the winner's
circle. This week at Trick Shot Billiards in Clifton Park NY,
tour director Mike Zuglan took on the that task. And he almost
succeeded.
Things did not go so well for Zuglan early Sunday when he faced
Hatch for the first time. Hatch ran away with that match by
the score of 9-1. Hatch then went on to defeat Greg Antonakos
9-4 for the hot-seat.
Zuglan bounced back on the one loss side and made his way to
the semi-finals, where he defeated Antonakos 9-5 to earn the
rematch with Hatch in the double elimination finals.
Zuglan knew he would have to defeat Hatch twice in order to
win the event, but just beating Hatch once was too big an obstacle
on this day. Hatch won the first and only set of the finals
9-6 to notch his seventh win of the season.
The tour takes next weekend off, but will be at Classic Billiards
in Rochester NY on March 28-29 for their next stop.

Joss Another
Notch on the Hatchet |
Dave Grau, Dennis Hatch, Dick Cappotto
& Mike Zuglan |
Dennis Hatch knifed past Dave Grau at Caps Cue
Club in Syracuse, NY as Mike Zuglan and the Joss Tour paid a
visit for the weekend. This was a true double-elimination format
and while Grau won the first set in the finals, 9-5, he had
to beat Hatch twice as that set was the first loss for hatch
in the entire tourney. The double-dip was not to be. Hatch won
the second set 9-5 and grabbed the $1,200 prize for his efforts.
Dave Grau had a very commendable tournament. He took down both
Jose Mendez (9-2) and Dan Heidrich (9-3) in the later stages
of the event and nearly took down Hatch in the finals. Jose
Mendez wound up in third place while Dan Heidrich claimed fourth.
As always at the Joss Tour, a fine Joss cue was on offer at
raffle. The lucky Joss Cue winner this week was Mike Renshaw.
Next week the Joss Tour will materialize at Trick Shot Billiard
Hall in Clifton Park, NY. Contact Mike Zuglan at (518) 356-7163
to enter.

Souquet Blasts Through Field
at Turning Stone |
Ralf Souquet never tasted defeat
at the Turning Stone resort in Verona NY as he showed why he
is the number one ranked player in the world and the AZB Player
of the Year. His flawless shotmaking and supernatural safety
play left opponents no air to breathe and even the acknowledged
greats of the game completely floundered when they faced him.
As an example of his power just take a look at what happened
when he played Mika Immonen. Immonen is rightly acknowledged
as one of the finest pool players the game has ever seen and
he has been on a hot streak for well over a year. He is a former
World 9-Ball Champion (2001) and he has gotten better since
he won that title. At this event he destroyed two other World
Champions without ever straining his cue. He demolished the
current World Ten Ball Champion, Darren Appleton, 9-1. Then
he took on another former World 9-Ball Champion, Thorsten Hohmann.
Thorsten never stood a chance. Immonen simply never gave him
any opportunities and dominated the match to win 9-3.
But when Immonen went up against Souquet it was as if a flower
were challenging a howitzer. Immonnen barely rose from his chair
the entire match as Ralf strung together 9-ball after 9-ball.
Souquet melted the Iceman 9-1 and never looked like he was even
concerned about the outcome. He made it look easy. He did that
all week. Shane Van Beening fell to him 9-4, and when he faced
off against the local favorite, Dennis Hatch, in the finals
he was going up against the man who had been breaking the best
of anyone on the particular table on which they played. Hatch
did better than most, but in the end he asked Ralf to "put
me out of my misery". Ralf complied by running the last
rack and winning the championship with the 13-7 win over Hatch.
A very special AZB tip of the hat goes to Simonis Cloth. Simonis
North America sponsored the AZBTV live stream of this event.
Thanks also to The Turning Stone Resort for their excellent
hospitality and to Mike Zuglan for producing this Joss Tour
event.

Hatch returns
for yet another Joss Tour Win |
Dennis Hatch |
Dennis Hatch returned to the Joss NE 9-Ball
Tour and picked up right where he left off.
Hatch joined 42 other players at Diamond Eight Billiards in
Latham, NY and made his way through the winner's side untouched.
His 9-7 win over Justin Hall for the hot-seat was the closest
an opponent got to him in 2 days.
Hall took his detour to the one loss side and dispatched Dave
Grau 9-6 to earn another shot at Hatch.
Unfortunately for Hall, Hatch was not settling for second on
this day. Thirteen games was all it took as Hatch quickly ended
the day with a 9-4 win and his fifth win of the season. Hatch
is not a perfect 5 for 5 in Joss events, as he has won every
event he played in this season.
Hatch earned $1440 for first, while Hall settled for $1000 in
second place prize money.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour now takes a break until the Turning
Stone Classic XII on February 19 - 22 at the Turning Stone Casino
in Verona, NY.

Immonen crushes Vidal for Joss Tour Win |
Marc Vidal has been on a hot-streak
of late, but even he didn't have what it took to hold off reigning
US Open Champion Mika Immonen in the finals of the Joss NE 9-Ball
event at Comet Billiards in Parsippany, NJ this weekend.
Immonen fell to the one loss side on Saturday after a 9-8 loss
to Vidal and after that win, Vidal cruised to the finals beating
Tom McGonagle 9-4 in the match for the hot-seat.
Immonen then one upped Vidal and scored a 9-3 win over McGonagle
to force a rematch with Vidal in the finals.
Immonen would have to beat Vidal twice in the finals in order
to earn the tournament win, but after back to back 9-3 matches
it was Immonen pocketing the $1400 in first place prize money.
Vidal settled for second place and $980 in prize money.
Notables who did not make the money in this event included Tony
Robles and tour director Mike Zuglan.
The Joss NE 9-Ball tour will be at Diamond Eight Billiards in
Latham, NY (just outside of Albany) next week for a $2000 added
event.
Zuglan also mentioned the upcoming Turning Stone Classic XII
is now full and he is taking names for an alternate list now.
Interested players should contact Zuglan at 518-356-7163.

Eddie Abraham wins
his first Joss tour stop |
The 43 players
who came out to Raxx
Pool Room in West Hempstead, NY for the Joss NE Ball Tour
Stop on December 6th and 7th finally figured out how to keep
Dennis Hatch from the winners circle. Hatch had won the last
three straight Joss Tour Stops, but it turned out that the
secret was to keep him out of the building. Hatch did not
make the trip this weekend and that left the field wide open
for a first time champion.
Top players in the field this time, included Tony Robles,
Shaun Wilkie, George San Souci and Joey Korsiak.
The winners side came down to Eddie Abraham vs Bob Blackmore
for the hot-seat. Blackmore is a regular at Raxx, and finished
in second place here last year. Abraham took the match by
a lopsided 9-3 score.
Blackmore would have to settle for third place as he then
lost to Jorge Rodriguez on the one loss side. The match was
close early, but Rodriguez took control and won 9-5.
The first set of the double elimination finals saw Rodriguez
continue his strong play and race out to a 3-0 lead over Abraham.
Abraham knew he had a fight on his hands and turned his game
up a notch to knot the score at 6-6 and then go on to win
the next three games for the 9-6 match win.
Abraham earned $1440 for the win, his first on the Joss Tour.
Rodriguez took home $1000 for second.
The Joss Tour now takes their yearly holiday break, and will
be back in action on January 10th at Comet Billiards in Parsippany,
NY.
Players are encouraged to get their entries in for the Joss
Tour's Turning Stone Classic X on February 21 - 24 at Turning
Stone Casino in Verona, NY. This event will be a point event
for the BCA Pro Points List and it always fills up.

Hatch holds
off Ginky to win 3 straight as he becomes the 2008 Joss Ocean
State Champion |
Dennis Hatch |
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour was at Snookers in Providence,
RI for the 20th Annual Ocean State 9-Ball Championship where
a field of 79 other players stepped up to try to stop Dennis
Hatch's Joss Tour winning streak. The field included such heavyweights
as Tony Robles, George San Souci, Mike Dechaine, Jeremy Sossei,
Dave Fernandez and Joe Tucker.
Hatch had won the last two Joss Tour events without dropping
a match, and that streak continued through the hot-seat match
where Hatch defeated Mike Dechaine 9-7.
On the one loss side, George "Ginky" San Souci avenged
his earlier loss to Dechaine and stepped up to try to keep Hatch
from another winners circle.
The first set of the true double elimination finals went to
Ginky 9-5 and all of a sudden, Hatch looked beatable. Hatch
quickly did away with any ideas of Ginky beating him again,
and cruised to a 9-4 win for his third straight victory.
The players on the Joss Tour will get a week off next week to
try to formulate a new plan for beating Hatch, and the Tour
will be at Raxx Pool Room and Grill in W. Hempstead on December
6th and 7th for their next event.
Players are still urged to get their entries in early for the
Turning Stone Classic X on February 21 - 24 at Turning Stone
Casino in Verona, NY. Players can call Mike Zuglan at (518)
356-7163 to enter.

Dennis Hatch |
Hatch keeps Joss hot-streak alive |
Anymore, it seems that players
in the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour are just playing for second place
as Dennis Hatch has been piling up win after win all year.
This week, the tour was at Golden Cue Billiards in Albany, NY
where a field of 52 other players set their sights on Hatch.
Once again, it was all in vain.
Hatch survived a scare from Danny Hewitt and won the hot-seat
with a 9-7 win. Next up on Hatch's hit parade was East Coast
hotshot Jeremy Sossei, who was riding an eight match win streak
after losing to Paul Rozonewski in the second round.
Any momentum that Sossei might have had was not enough as Hatch
crushed him 9-4 in the finals.
Hatch pocketed $1700 for first place, while Sossei took home
$1240 for second.
The Joss NE 9-Ball tour will be at Snookers Pool Lounge in Providence,
RI for the $5000 added 20th Ocean State 9-Ball Championship.
Tour director Mike Zuglan is still taking entries for the upcoming
Turning Stone Classic X on February 21 - 24 at Turning Stone
Casino in Verona, NY.

Dennis Hatch
unstoppable at Joss NE 9-Ball Tour |
Dennis Hatch |
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour drew a field of thirty
six players to Hippos House of Billiards in Yorkville, NY over
the weekend of November 8th and 9th for a $1500 added event.
As soon as Dennis Hatch walked in the door of the room, all
players knew that he would be the man to beat in this tournament.
And doing that proved to be an impossible task in this event.
Hatch took advantage of a little luck in the match for the hot-seat
as his opponent Greg Antonakos missed a 7-ball while running
out at 8-8 and allowed Hatch back to the table to pocket the
last three balls for the win.
Antonakos went to the left side of the board and found Dave
Grau waiting. Grau has lost to Tim Parisian early on Saturday,
but had been knocking them dead on the one loss side ever since
then. Antonakos was Grau's next victim after a 9-7 match.
All of the momentum that Grau had going for him on his way to
the finals was quickly snuffed out as Hatch scored a quick 9-3
win for 4th Joss Tour win of the year.
Hatch earned $1250, while Grad took home $880 for second.
All was not festive on this weekend as Hippos is owned by the
Conte family and the recent loss of Al Conte was on everyone's
mind. Mike Zuglan spoke about Al, and all players and fans took
a moment of silence to remember their friend. It was announced
at the event that the event will become a memorial for Al, starting
next year.
The Joss Tour will be at the newly remodeled Golden Cue Billiards
in Albany, NY next weekend. A lot of money has gone into Golden
Cue's remodelling, and it is sure to be a great event.
Players are asked to remember that the Turning Stone Classic
XII is getting closer and closer. This event fills up every
year, so players are urged to get their entries into Mike now.

Jose Parica |
Jose Parica cruises at Joss Comet stop |
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour got back
on the tournament scene on the weekend of November 1st and 2nd
at Comet Billiards in Parsippany, NJ with a field of 45 players
competing for $2000 in added prize money.
In addition to the pressure of playing for $1500 in first place
prize money, the players knew that their matches were also being
streamed live on the net by Accu-Stats. That pressure didn't
seem to phase Jose Parica one bit, as he ran through the field
undefeated to the hot-seat. Parica started Sunday play with
a 9-3 win over Adam Kielar and then a 9-6 win over Mike Zuglan
for the hot-seat.
The one loss side resembled a minefield with players unable
to play more than one or two matches without being eliminated.
Dave Grau eliminated Allen Hopkins 9-6, but was then knocked
out by Jeremy Sossei 9-7. Sossei's celebration was short as
he was then eliminated by Adam Kielar 9-2. Kielar also sent
Joey Kong to the stands with a 9-6 win to earn a shot at Zuglan
in the semi-finals. And this match went to Kielar 9-5, sending
Zuglan to the sidelines in third place.
The finals was a rematch between Parica and Kielar, but it was
a short match as Parica cruised to a 9-3 win in the first set.
Parica earned $1500 for first, while Kielar took home $1100
for second.
The Joss Tour will be at Hippos House of Billiards in Yorkville,
NY next weekend for their next stop. That event will certainly
be a big one, as Hippos is owned by Al Conte's family.

Joss Second
Stop Swiped by Dennis Hatch |

The Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour and Trick Shot
Billiard Hall in Clifton Park, New York, hosted the second $2000
added stop of the 2008/2009 season October 4th-5th. With thirty-six
players on hand, the $100 entry event offered a total purse
of $4880.
A name we haven’t seen for a little while jumped off the
page and ended up on top – Dennis Hatch. Hatch went undefeated
through the charts with wins on Sunday against Paul Rozonewski
9-5 and Mike Zuglan for the hot-seat 9-5.
Zuglan began his day with a tight set against Chance Chin 9-7
before his first loss of the tournament against Hatch. Once
on the one-loss side, Zuglan took his second defeat at the hands
of Dave Grau in a whopping 9-0 ending.
Grau took down Jason Michas 9-4, Chance Chin 9-5, and Paul Rozonewski
9-5 prior to meeting up with Zuglan in the semis. This long
trip through the brackets courtesy of Dave Fernandez in the
second round on the winner’s side. Grau had to win a total
of six matches to reach the finals, where he then succumbed
to the competitive machine, Dennis Hatch 9-4.
Comet Billiards in Parsippany, New Jersey, will host the next
stop on November 1st-2nd (entry $100) for those interested in
attending. In addition, spots are quickly filling up for one
of the most coveted titles – Champion at Turning Stone
Casino. The $25000 added Turning Stone Classic XII 9-Ball Open
is scheduled for February 19th-22nd and entries are now being
accepted. This weekend, several slots were taken and the list
continues to grow so to avoid being shut out, contact Mike Zuglan
directly at (518) 356-7163 for more details. Just a side note,
Zuglan will be serving jury duty this week, so please be patient
on responses.

Rob Saez |
Robb Saez Undefeated for Joss Northeast
9-Ball Tour Twelfth Season Opener |
The Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour
started out the new 2008/2009 season this weekend (September
27th-28th) at T.J.’s Classic Billiards in Waterville,
Maine. The twelfth season looks to be a great start for Robb
Saez, as he went undefeated through the field of twenty-eight
players in this $2000 added event. With a total prize fund of
$4240 to spread to the players, Saez opted to take down the
big cheese with a win over Marc Vidal 9-6 to get to the hot-seat
match; while his opponent, Billy Lanna, bested Ivaylo Petrov
9-6 to match up with him.
In the hot-seat arena, the match went back and forth. Quite
frankly, it was described as a match that could have gone either
way, a very tight set. But in the end, Lanna was outgunned by
Saez by a final score of 9-7, sending him west in the brackets.
On the one-loss side, Ivaylo Petrov and Marc Vidal met in the
quarter-finals with a similar score – Vidal moved past
Petrov 9-7 to have his chance at Lanna. Unfortunately for Lanna,
Vidal was one determined guy and he ended Lanna’s tournament
life by a close 9-6 for another shot at Saez.
Saez was way too much for Vidal to handle on this day as the
finals ended up being pretty much one-sided – Saez jumped
out to a huge lead and never looked back winning the inaugural
season event 9-3.
