Rodney Morris has won the Joss Tour Turning
Stone Classic XVII and won it in style. The tournament featured
Rodney Morris and Alex Pagulayan in the finals after Alex Pagulayan
defeated Shawn Putnam 9-8 in the semis. That match was one of
the strangest we have ever seen. Putnam went out to a 6-2 lead
and then the wheels just fell off for him. He continued to play
well but lady luck just spit on him at every turn. Twice Pagulayan
should have scratched in the corner only to have the cue ball
defy gravity and stay in the jaws, leaving Putnam nothing to
do.
Pagulayan took advantage of every twist of fate, came back and
won the match on the hill, 9-8.
In the finals Morris jumped out to a 4-1 lead over Pagulayan.
Both men were playing at a very rapid pace and appeared comfortable
at the table with no tension in view. Morris extended that margin
as the score evolved to 7-2 in his favor. Both men were breaking
well and clearing up racks easily.
In rack ten, Morris missed a bank shot on the two ball to bring
Pagulayan to the table with an opportunity. He made the most
of it to bring the score to 7-3. But Pagulayan badly missed
a four ball in the next rack to put Morris back in and soon
the score, with less than 30 minutes of playing time, stood
at 8-3 in favor of Morris. He broke and ran the next to go to
9-3 and Morris was clearly on a mission to win and win quickly.
Morris missed the two ball in the next rack and Pagulayan needed
to start making things happen if he was to have a prayer. But
Alex could not stay at the table. Trading racks would do him
no good and that was what was happening. Soon the score was
at 10-4. And Morris just kept making 9 balls. He made five balls
on one break and soon the score, only one hour into the match,
stood at 12-4 for Morris. Pagulayan clawed out three racks to
come to 12-7 but then scratched on the one ball. Morris controlled
the table and won the match 13-7 to take the title.

Dechaine wins RI Joss Tour Stop |
"The Fireball" Mike
Dechaine scorched his way through a field of fifty five players
at the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop at Snookers Billiards in Providence,
RI over the weekend of June 11-12.
Dechaine took the aptly named hot-seat with a 9-5 win over Nelson
Oliviera and after Oliviera dispatched tour points leader Bucky
Souvanthong in the semi-finals, Dechaine scored another 9-5
win over Oliviera to close out the event undefeated.
Dechaine earned $1200 in prize money, while Oliviera settled
for $900 in second place money.
Sunday's second chance event saw Phil Davis go undefeated including
wins over Dave Wright for the hot-seat and again in the finals.
Davis pocketed $320, while Wright took home $220 for second.
The Joss NE 9-Ball tour now takes a break until the Turning
Stone Classic XVII on September 8-11 at the Turning Stone Casino
in Verona, NY. There are still a handful of open spots left
for this event, but interested players are urged to contact
Mike Zuglan quickly as those spots will fill up. |

Antonakos
Dominates Joss Tour Stop |
Greg Antonakos
|
Fans of the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour are used to
seeing dominating performances at various tour stops, and the
fans in attendance over the weekend of April 16-17th at the
Golden Cue in Albany, NY saw another one ... maybe just not
the player they expected to be doing the domination. This time,
it was Greg Antonakos who was laying down the law and the field
of 49 other players could do nothing by watch.
While Antonakos was tested Sunday afternoon by Dave Pinkston,
that hill-hill match was the last time a player would come anywhere
near beating Greg at this event. Chance Chin fell to Antonakos
9-4 for the hot-seat and then Chin dropped a 9-3 decision to
Dave Grau on the one loss side. This set up the final double
elimination matchup between Grau and Antonakos, but all of the
suspense in this matchup was gone in a hurry as Antonakos crushed
Grau 9-1 in the first set.
Antonakos pocketed $1100 for the weekend, while Grau settled
for $800 in second place prize money.
The second chance tournament on Sunday drew 23 players who took
their shot at the $960 in prize money. This event was won by
Angelo Hilton who went undefeated and scored a hill-hill win
over John Kruythoss in the finals.
Zuglan is still taking entries for the Turning Stone Classic
XVII, which takes place September 8 - 11 at the Turning Stone
Casino in Verona, NY.

Blackmore
and Bonilla hold off late charges for Joss Tour wins |
The Joss NE
9-Ball Tour drew a field of 39 players to Raxx Pool Room in
West Hempstead, NY over the weekend of April 2 - 3, to compete
for the $3650 available in total prize money.
With both Tour Points leader Bucky Souvanthong and tour terror
Dennis Hatch skipping this event, the field was wide open
for almost anyone to take home first place in this one.
Bobby Blackmore made his case for that prize with a 9-5 win
over Chris Lynch for the hot-seat. Prior to the match with
Blackmore, Lynch had beaten Joey Korsiak 9-8 to send Korsiak
to the left side of the board; and Korsiak was waiting for
him when Lynch made the trip west. In the Lynch/Korsiak rematch,
the score was the same with a different winner as Korsiak
scored a 9-8 win to send Lynch to the rail in third place.
The true double elimination final saw Korsiak win the first
set 9-4, but the second set saw Blackmore come back and win
an "eventful match" 9-5.
The second chance tournament on Sunday saw Oscar Bonilla take
the hot-seat with a 3-0 win over Phil Davis and then fight
off a charge from Yesid Garibello in the finals. Garibello
won the first set of the finals 3-0, but Bonilla recovered
and won the second set 3-1 for the tournament win.
Bob Talbot was the winner of the random drawing for the $1200
custom engraved collectible Joss cue.
The tour will be off next week so that tour director Mike
Zuglan can attend the wedding of his niece, but he will back
in two weeks at the Golden Cue in Albany, NY.
Zuglan is still taking entries for the Turning Stone Classic
XVII, which takes place September 8 - 11 at the Turning Stone
Casino in Verona, NY.

Dennis Hatch |
Hatch over Delvillano for Joss Tour
Win |
It had been a couple years since
Seth Delvillano had competed on the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour. Dennis
Hatch took no time at all in explaining the new pecking order
on the tour to Delvillano at the March 26-27 tour stop at Salt
City Billiards in Syracuse, NY.
Both Delvillano and Hatch went undefeated for the weekend until
they met up to compete for the hot-seat on Sunday. Hatch quickly
won that match 9-3.
Delvillano found Dave Grau waiting on the one loss side and
Grau was a little more accommodating to Delvillano as Delvillano
won that match 9-5 to earn another shot at Hatch in the true
double elimination finals.
Delvillano showed that he wasn't all that impressed with Hatch's
new standing as the favorite at any Joss Tour stop he enters.
The two players kept it close early and were tied at 2-2 before
Hatch took control and held a 7-4 lead. Delvillano fought back
and tied the score at 7-7, but dropped the next game as Hatch
got to the hill at 8-7. The next rack would center around a
safety battle and Hatch won that battle as well as the game,
match and tournament 9-7.
Hatch earned $1000, while Delvillano pocketed $700 for second.
The second chance tournament on Sunday saw thirteen players
toss their entries into the pot to compete for the $760 in prize
money.
This event would see Brian Lipes go through the field undefeated
and end the tournament in style with a 3-0 win over Joe Wysocki
in the finals.
Lipes won $300, while Wysocki settled for $200 in prize money.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Raxx Billiards in West Hempstead,
NY next weekend for their next event.
Tour director Mike Zuglan is still taking entries for the Turning
Stone Classic XVII, which takes place September 8 - 11 at the
Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY.

Crevier
wins Joss Tour Debut; Acciavatti almost perfect in second chance
event |
Francis Crevier, Room Owner Tim Berlin
and Karen Corr
|
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour was in action over the
weekend of March 19th and 20th with a field of forty one players
in an event that saw the return of Karen Corr to the Joss Tour,
another appearance by perennial tour front-runner Dennis Hatch,
and a first time appearance by Canadian hotshot Francis Crevier.
As it turned out, the appearance by Quebec's Crevier was the
biggest story of the weekend.
Most followers of the Joss Tour know that Dennis Hatch's entry
in a tournament means that he is immediately the man to beat
for the weekend. Crevier rose to meet that challenge on Saturday
as he handed Hatch his first loss of the weekend 9-5. Hatch's
tournament would end on Sunday with a one-sided 9-3 loss to
WPBA star Karen Corr.
Crevier's eventual opponent for the hot-seat on Sunday was tour
points leader Bucky Souvanthong, who sent Corr to the one loss
side 9-4 earlier Sunday. Crevier would win the match with Souvanthong
9-4.
On the one loss side Souvanthong found that Corr didn't forget
that earlier loss and was waiting for the chance to avenge that
loss. Corr would do that fairly quickly with a 9-3 win.
The first set of the double elimination finals went Corr's way
9-5. Crevier came out strong to start the second set and took
an early 7-2 lead. Corr would get on a run of her own and win
five of the next six games to get back to within one game at
8-7, but Crevier closed out the set with a win in the next rack
and celebrated the 9-7 win for first place in the main event.
The win was worth $1100 for Crevier, while Corr settled for
$800. Souvanthong's third place finish was more than enough
for him to stay comfortably atop the tour points list.
Sunday also saw the second chance tournament take place with
19 players competing for $880 in prize money. In that tournament,
Tom Acciavatti came within one rack of tournament perfection.
Acciavatti won his first three matches with 3-0 scores and it
wasn't until his match that Acciavatti would see an opponent,
Keith Owen, win a game. Acciavatti bounced back from that game
and won the match with Owen 3-1 and that was the last time Acciavatti
would suffer losing a rack as he closed out the tournament with
back to back 3-0 wins over Bruce Carroll for the hot-seat and
again in the finals. All told, Acciavatti held an 18-1 games
score for the event. That was worth $340 in prize money for
Acciavatti.

Dennis Hatch |
Hatch gets serious to take second
set of true double final and win Joss Northeast stop |
One day shy of a year ago, on
February 21, Dennis Hatch won a stop on the Joss Northeast 9-Ball
Tour at Main St. Billiards in Amsterdam, NY. On February 20,
2011, he did it again, at the same location, holding off a double
elimination final challenge by Bucky Souvanthong to finish undefeated.
The $1,500-added event, the third in 2011, with a $3,100 total
purse, drew 48 entrants.
Hatch and Souvanthong squared off three times; the first, among
the winners’ side final four, when Hatch sent Souvanthong
west 9-5. They would meet again in the finals. Joining Hatch
in the battle for the hot seat was Dan Hewitt, winner of the
last Joss NE stop in January, who had just sent Ron Casanzio
to join Souvanthong with a 9-7 victory. Hatch defeated Hewitt
9-3 and waited for what turned out to be Souvanthong’s
return.
Souvanthong’s three-match return to the finals opened
with a match against Spencer Auigbelle, who’d defeated
Tom Acciavatti and tour director Mike Zuglan, both 9-5, to reach
him. Casanzio drew Bruce Nagle, who’d gotten by Kevin
Ketz and Greg Antonakos, both 9-7. It was Souvanthong and Casanzio
advancing to the quarterfinals; Souvanthong with a 9-6 victory
over Auigbelle, Casanzio defeating Nagle 9-3. Souvanthong got
into the semifinals versus Hewitt, after a 9-2 win over Casanzio.
Souvanthong then dropped Hewitt into third place 9-5 and with
a degree of momentum on his side, took the opening set of the
true double elimination final against Hatch 9-2. At that point,
noted Zuglan, Hatch “got serious,” turning the tables
on Souvanthong and winning the deciding match by the same 9-2
score.
A 20-entrant, $500-added, Second Chance Tournament was won by
Marco Kam, who defeated Mark Stewart in a double hill final
match. Bruce Carroll finished third, with Noah Wells in fourth
place. Keith Owen and Gary Poulton finished in a tie for fifth
place.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Zuglan made note of the
fact that he is still accepting entries for the $25,000-added,
season finale, Turning Stone XVII, set for August 11-14. At
this point in time, said Zuglan, the field is already half full.
Interested competitors should contact Zuglan at 518-356-7163.

Hewitt
and Phil Davis earn Joss Tour Wins |
While almost
every top action player in the country was in Indiana for
the Derby City Classic, that didn't keep the East Coast players
from making their way to Diamond Eight Billiards in Latham,
NY for the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour Stop. A field of 56 players
came out to compete for the $1500 in added prize money.
Danny Hewitt took the hot-seat in this one with a dominating
9-2 win over Jarrod Clowery. As if that loss wasn't bad enough
for Clowery, he then found himself on the wrong end of a 9-3
match with Bucky Souvanthong. Souvanthong had lost to tour
director Mike Zuglan on Saturday and rode the left side of
the board to the finals.
Souvanthong came out of the gate strong and held an early
3-1 lead before Hewitt won six straight games to take control
at 7-3. Souvanthong won the next three to claw back within
one at 7-6, but that was the closest he would get as Hewitt
won three of the next four games for the 9-7 win and first
place.
The second chance tournament on Sunday drew 19 players and
Redgie Cutler looked unbeatable in this one. Unbeatable only
until the finals though, as Phil Davis scored back to back
3-1 wins to capture first place and $330 in prize money.
Another winner on Sunday was spectator Carmella Runza who
won the $1200 Joss Cue raffle.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Main Street Billiards in
Amsterdam, NY in three weeks for their next tour stop on Feb
19-20.
Mike Zuglan is already accepting entries for Turning Stone
XVII, which will take place August 11-14. Interested players
are urged to call Zuglan at 518-356-7163.

Chau wins
first Joss Tour stop of New Year |
Manny Chau
went undefeated to win the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop at Cue
Nine in Levittown, NY over the weekend of January 8th and
9th.
Chau's journey through the brackets on Sunday included a 9-8
win over tour director Mike Zuglan and then a 9-6 win over
Jeremy Sossei for the hotseat.
Sossei went to the left side of the board where Zuglan had
bounced back from his loss to Chau and was looking to earn
another shot at Chau in the finals. The Sossei/Zuglan match
was short though, as Sossei scored a lopsided 9-3 win.
Sossei knew he would have to defeat Chau twice in the finals
to earn first place, but that was not to happen as Chau duplicated
his earlier 9-6 win over Sossei to finish the final match
in one set.
Chau earned $900 for first, while Sossei settled for $650
in second place prize money.
The next Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop will be January 29-30 at
Diamond Eight Billiards in Latham (Albany), NY.
Mike Zuglan is already accepting entries for Turning Stone
XVII, which will take place August 11-14. Interested players
are urged to call Zuglan at 518-356-7163.

Corey
Deuel Takes Win at Turning Stone XVI |
Mike Zuglan and Turning Stone XLV winner
Corey Deuel |
Corey Deuel has defeated Stevie Moore to claim
the champions spot at the Turning Stone Classic XVI in Verona,
NY.
This week featured some of the most memorable matches of the
year with Johnny Archer coming from behind to narrowly escape
Karen Corr 9-8 and Dennis Hatch and Earl Strickland shooting
at lightning speed in a match that found Hatch emerging the
winner. Many of the weeks matches went double-hill, with three
of these coming in a row on the AZBilliards/Accu-Stats free
live stream.
Our two finalists took a long road on Sunday to reach their
final showdown. The day began with four matches on tap. On the
one-loss side Hunter Lombardo came on strong to defeat a resurgent
Earl Strickland 9-8 while Gabe Owen controlled Tom D'Alfonso
9-3 to progress. On the winner's side Corey Deuel defeated perennial
Turning Stone favorite Dennis Hatch 9-7 and Stevie Moore destroyed
Mike Dechaine 9-1.
This set up the next pair of match-ups on the one-loss side
of the brackets. Here Mike Dechaine took down Hunter Lombardo
9-5 and Dennis Hatch stayed alive by besting Gabe Owen 9-2.
Hatch and Dechaine then paired off and Dechaine never gave Hatch
much air as he dominated the big man to win 9-4. Meanwhile,
the hot seat match between Corey Deuel and Stevie Moore turned
into an endurance-testing 2.5 hour marathon that finally resulted
in Deuel claiming the chair 9-7 after Moore was up 7-6 and running
out when he committed a clothing foul that sent him to his chair
for the rest of the match as Deuel took control and ran the
rest of the racks to grab the win. This meant that Moore had
to return to battle immediately against Dechaine and prevailed
9-5 there to earn both a bit of revenge and his honors into
the finals rematch against Deuel.
Deuel took control early in the final race to 13 games as he
deposited the first three 9 balls. In rack four Stevie played
a safety on the two ball that could have allowed Deuel to continue
his winning ways as he left a narrow window to the 2 ball open
with the 9 ball sitting nearby in the jaws of the corner packet.
But the combination attempt went awry and Moore returned to
the table to lay waste to the rest of the rack to score his
first bead at 3-1.
Our combatants traded blows the next three racks to find the
score at 4-3 in favor of Deuel at the end of the first hour
of play. In rack number eight Deuel played a nifty carom off
of the 1 ball to pocket the 9 in the corner and stretch his
lead a bit to 5-3. Deuel continued to slowly pull out and after
three more racks led Moore 7-4 in our race to 13. At the two-hour
mark the score saw Deuel leading 9 games to 5 and our holiday
crowd was entertaining dreams of sugar plums and shot clocks.
In rack #13 Deuel was on his way through the rack when he scratched
on the 7 ball and left Moore an easy two-ball out to move within
two games at 10-8. Moore then began to claw his way back into
contention and, taking advantage of a couple of missed steps
by Deuel, tied us first at 10 games and then took the lead at
11-10 before Deuel captured another rack to tie us again at
11. Our race to 13 was now a race to 2 games for the win. In
his attempt to gain the hill first Stevie Moore landed to straight
on the 8 ball and had to settle for a long cut on the 9 ball.
He jawed that in the corner, gifting the hill position to Deuel.
Deuel then made a ball on the snap and had a shot on the 1.
He made that and then made a long shot on the 2 ball. THe 3
went into the foot corner and he played three-rail shape on
the 4. The 4 dropped obediently into the side pocket and the
rest of the rack lay out before him in a simple pattern. When
he put the 8 into the corner the cue ball rebounded off of the
rail into the 9 and drove it into the opposite corner for the
win.

Bucky Souvanthong |
Souvanthong over Hatch twice for
Joss Tour win |
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop
at Bison Billiards in Williamsville, NY on November 20 - 21
saw one competitor turn in a dominating performance to take
the hot-seat and then win a close match against the same opponent
again in the finals. It just wasn't the player that was expected
in that situation.
As the field of 38 players made their way down to the final
matches on Sunday, things were going as expected by most in
the crowd as Dennis Hatch took advantage of playing in his home
room and was sending opponents to the one loss side in quick
fashion.
The match for the hot-seat was a 9-1 beating, but to the crowds
surprise it was Hatch making the trip to the one loss side and
Bucky Souvanthong laying down the beating this time.
Hatch sent Dean McNaughton home in 3rd place with a 9-6 score
line, and got ready for what he hoped would be two matches in
the true double elimination finals against Souvanthong.
The first match of the finals was a close one with neither player
able to grab more than a one rack lead, but in the end it was
Souvanthong eking out the 9-8 win to send Hatch home in second
place; a position he is not familiar with.
In the Sunday second chance tournament, Willie Oney took the
hotseat from Spencer Auigbelle 3-2 and then watched as Dan Kolacz
eliminated Auigbelle on the one loss side. Kolacz had lost his
first match of the day (to Mike Patrikios) and Auigbelle had
been Kolacz's fifth victim of the day on the one loss side.
Kolacz continued his hot play by defeating Oney 3-0 in the first
set of the double elimination finals. The second set went to
hill-hill before Oney could pull out the win.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will not be back in action until the
Turning Stone Classic XVI on December 16-19 at the Turning Stone
Casino in Verona, Ny. Inquiries regarding this event should
be directed to Mike Zuglan at 518-356-7163.

Immonen
over Dechaine for Ocean State Title |
Jarrod Clowery, Mike Dechaine and Mika
Immonen |
Mika Immonen came out on top of a field of 79
players to win the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's 22nd Annual Ocean State
9-Ball Championship on November 13-14, but it wasn't as easy
as it originally looked like it might be for Immonen.
From the beginning of the event, it was pretty obvious that
both Immonen and Mike Dechaine would be the players to beat
in this event. As the brackets came together, the two would
have to face off in the final eight on the winners side.
Heading up to the match with Dechaine, Immonen had been relatively
untested as we had not allowed an opponent more than 4 games
in a match. The match with Dechaine was no different as Mika
ran away with a 9-3 win.
Immonen just kept cruising through the event and ran over Jarrod
Clowery 9-4 to take the hot-seat and await an opponent in the
finals.
On the one loss side, Dechaine has dusted himself off and dispatched
five straight opponents to earn another shot at Immonen in the
true double elimination finals.
The first set of the finals was a completely different story
than the earlier meeting between these two. This time, Dechaine
was able to stay with Immonen game for game and with the score
tied at 7-7, Dechaine took charge and ran back to back racks
for a 9-7 win.
With both players having losses, one final race to nine was
required to crown a champion. Immonen came out strong in the
final set and raced to a 5-2 lead, but Dechaine wasn't done
yet. Dechaine came back to win five of the next six games to
take the lead at 7-6. Immonen won the next game and the players
found themselves at 7-7 again. This time, it was Immonen who
took control, winning the final two games for the 9-7 win and
first place.
Immonen earned $2500 for the win, while Dechaine consoled himself
with $1700 in prize money.
Next up for the Joss Tour is a $2000 added event at Bison Billiards
in Buffalo, NY next weekend. That will be the last event before
the Turning Stone Classic XVI at the Turning Stone Casino in
Verona, NY on December 16-19. Inquiries regarding the Turning
Stone event should be directed to Mike Zuglan at 518-356-7163.

Winters
wins Al Conte Memorial |
The Joss NE
9-Ball Tour was at Hippos House of Billiards in Yorkville,
NY over the weekend of November 6-7 for the 2nd Annual Al
Conte Memorial. Shane Winters went through the field of 39
players undefeated for the tournament win.
If close matches were what the fans were there for, then they
certainly got their money's worth. Winters took the hot-seat
with a 9-7 win over Dave Grau and the matches just got closer
from there.
Spencer Auigbelle won on the one loss side, hoping for another
shot at Winters after losing in the semi-finals. He would
get that chance with a 9-8 win over Grau, sending Grau to
the bleachers in third place.
It was another close one in the first set of the finals as
Winters was taken to hill-hill by Auigbelle before winning
the case game for the win.
Winters pocketed $1100 for first, while Auigbelle took home
$800.
In the Sunday second chance tournament, Dwight Dixon went
home one game shy of a great comeback. Dixon lost his first
match of the event and came back through the one loss side
with six straight wins, including a 3-1 win over hot-seat
occupant Mike Donnelly in the first set of the finals. Unfortunately
for Dixon, the finals were true double elimination and he
fell short with a 3-2 loss to Donnelly in the second set of
the finals.
Donnelly earned $300 for first, while Dixon won $200 for second.
Next week is the 22nd Annual Ocean State 9-Ball Championship
at Snookers Billiards in Providence, RI. The event will feature
$5000 in added prize money.
Players are still urged to get their entries in for the Turning
Stone Classic XVI on December 16 - 19. The field is limited
to 128 players and only a handful of entries are still open
for this event.

Zvi and Blackmore take Joss Tour
Wins |
Zion Zvi held off Tom D'Alfonso
to win the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop at Raxx Pool Room and Grill
in West Hempstead NY over the weekend of October 30 - 31.
With a total of 32 players competing for the $3500 in prize
money, smart money would have been on Mika Immonen as the favorite
in this event, but Tom D'Alfonso sent tremors through the tournament
chart on Saturday with is 9-7 victory over Immonen. D'Alfonso
rode the momentum of that win all the way to the hot-seat match
on Sunday, but ran out of steam as Zion Zvi scored a lopsided
9-1 win for the hot-seat.
On the one loss side, D'Alfonso found Immonen waiting for a
rematch but that suited D'Alfonso just fine as he burned The
Iceman yet again; this time by the score of 9-5.
D'Alfonso won the first match in the true double elimination
finals 9-4, but Zvi recovered from that loss and defeated D'Alfonso
9-6 in the second set for the tournament win.
Zvi pocketed $1100 for first, while D'Alfonso took home $750
for second.
In the Sunday Second Chance Event, Bobby Blackmore bounced back
from a first round loss to Mike Tanzarella to win six matches
in a row to take first place. Mhet Vergara took the hot-seat
in the event with a win over Brent Boemmels, but Blackmore cruised
through both Boemmels and Vergara in his way to the win.
Blackmore earned $320, while Vergara settled for $200.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Hippo's House of Billiards
in Yorkville, NY next weekend for the 2nd Annual Al Conte Memorial.
Players who are interested in competing in the Turning Stone
Classic XVI need to get their entries in asap. The event is
limited to 128 players and is filling fast.

Hatch
wins in Clifton Park; Ketz begins his own dynasty |
Dennis Hatch |
It only took two events, but the Dennis Hatch
dominance at the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour is back in swing. Hatch
waded through a field of 31 other players on October 9th - 10
at Trick Shot Billiards in Clifton Park, NY for his first win
of the new season.
Hatch took the hot seat with a one sided 9-1 win over Chance
Chin and waited for his opponent in the double elimination finals.
Chin found Jeff Smolen waiting on the one loss side with revenge
on his mind. Smolen had taken the trip to the left side of the
board at the hands of Chin 9-7. Smolen would get his revenge
and an appointment with Hatch in the finals.
Smolen came out strong in the finals and took the first set
9-6. When the second set of the finals began, Smolen discovered
that double dipping Hatch in a Joss Tour event is pretty hard
to do. Hatch came out of the gate with a run of five racks to
take what would prove to be an insurmountable lead. Hatch would
ride that lead to a 9-2 win and yet another Joss NE 9-Ball Tour
win.
In the second chance Sunday event, a new Joss Tour dynasty could
be starting. Kevin Ketz dropped his first match and then won
eight straight matches to win his second event in a row. Ketz
defeated Angelo Hilton 3-0 and 3-1 in the finals.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Raxx Billiards in West Hempstead,
NY on October 30 - 31, for their next event.
Don't forget the Turning Stone Classic XVI taking place December
16th - 19th at The Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. The event
is filling fast.

Dave Fernandez |
Fernandez wins first career Joss
Tour Event |
Dave Fernandez fought off thirty
six other players and a comeback bid from Ivaylo Petrov to win
the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour's Maine Event IV at TJ's Classic Billiards
in Waterville, Me.
Fernandez and Petrov's first meeting at this event was for the
hot-seat, where Fernandez won by the narrowest of 9-8 margins.
Petrov had another tough match on the one loss side where he
eliminated Jeff Kennedy 9-7.
The final double elimination match saw Petrov get the first
match with a 9-7 score to force a final race to 9 in order to
determine the final winner.
Fernandez came out strong in the final set and raced to an 8-2
lead, but Petrov refused to quit and win the next five games
to pull back within one at 8-7. A dry break from Petrov in rack
sixteen was the end of the comeback bid as Fernandez ran out
the rack for his first Joss NE 9-Ball Tour win.
Fernandez earned $1100 for first place, while Petrov pocketed
$800 for second.
Sunday saw the $500 added Second Chance Non Pro Event where
seventeen players put up $20 each for another shot at a tournament
payday. This event was won by Joe Dupuis, with Doug Brown taking
second. Dupuis won $300 and Brown settled for $200. Six played
cashed in the second chance event.
TJ's owner, Steve Reynolds, expressed special thanks to John
Lekas from Total Amusements for helping to sponsor the event.
The Joss NE 9-Ball tour will be at Trick Shot Billiards in Clifton
Park, NY next weekend for their next tour stop. And don't forget
the Turning Stone Classic XVI taking place December 16th - 19th
at The Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. The event is filling
